how many points will revoke or suspend your license in maryland?? and what do you guys think the chances are that i can get some points knocked off the ticket i got last nite? take a look at the post if you haven't read it already.

 

8 points will get you canned.

Tell you what, go take a defensive drivers or safety course and get back a few points on your license. Look them up in a phone book and pay $50 for an 8 hour class, they'll give you a certificate and also send one to MVA to prove you completed the course. You get like a 5 point credit on your license so it'll knock off a few points - and you can only do this once every 2 years though.

And by the way - Fight the ticket. Insurance rates are gonna get ridiculous unless you stand up and fight the cop who maybe had the wrong idea and person. It's like Child Support - the system sucks!!!!

 

do u know if they have that in MASS??? cause i could use a few points taken off.... do u know if that does anythin for your insurance step cause my step 20 is killin me .... are they basically the same thing??

Every ticket that I went to court, fought, and "won" only cost ne a fine or court costs and 0 points! Maybe I'm lucky, but I've never had a point on my license (out of approx. 6 tickets)! :P

Make sure that you fight the ticket, and follow dajuice27's suggestion!

 

the thing is that i didn't race..........why should i plead guilty for a charge i didn't commit. and by takin a drivers course is pretty much tellin the judge that i am guilty to the charges.

 

You have several choices (from best to worst):

Plead not guilty, then give your explanation! If you "win" then there will be no points or fines (but you will have to pay court costs).

You could also plead "guilty with an explanation". If you "win", you'll probably get a reduced (or no) fine and reduced (or 0) points.

You could just pay the ticket, get the points, and your insurance will probably go up.

If you do nothing, you'll get the fine, the points, higher insurance, and probably a bench warrant for your arrest.

In any event, if you get the points, take the driver's safety course.

the asshole was just trying to meet his ticket quota.. it's unfortunate that he shoveled so much shit to try and do it.
take it to court and tellt he judge eveything that happened. you will hopefully get off, and the cop should get suspended.

Taking the course is not admitting guilt. That is a precationary measure to keep points off your license should you get any. It also helps to keep your insurance rates low. It also shows the court that you are a considerate and responsible person to know enough to take the course without direction by the court - it looks good for you. Second, I said fight the damn ticket. If you have done nothing wrong, fight it! I don't like to have points on my license either, but when feasible, I fight my tickets. I am 7-0 when I go to court. I always have a plan A and B before I step in the door, this is always Plan B.

Admit nothing, but fight for your namme. Good luck, and I hope we have helped you some.

If you really want good advice talk to a lawyer. Maybe you or somebody you know has a friend that is one. Ya might want to pay to take him/her with you to court. Dajuice27 is right! Going to those stupid ass classes is in no way an admission of guilt- judges like to see if b/c it makes you look like a concerned citizen. Judges also know it's a pain in the ass and are less likely to screw you further. Also, 8 points gets you a MVA hearing-not revoked! At the hearing (NOT Court, but close) you get a chance to further your plea, however if it goes that far you'd be really stupid Not to bring a lawyer. Trust me I know: Last year I drove legally with a valid license with 25 POINTS!!! 1 point from speeding, and 24 from 2 DWI's!!! Yeah I'm an idiot, but I did learn...eventually! Now I'm down to 13 points and 12 will come off in the spring, but DO NOT LET THIS CRAP HAPPEN TO YOU PEOPLE!!!
