air filter advice needed!

today i checked my air filter to see how bad it is and i noticed it was pretty bad. i went to go buy a new filter and they were $20. i was like wow. so i was wondering what you guys think i should do. i have four options and i wanted to know what you guys think is the best option.

1.) buy a new oe filter
2.) buy a k&n filter
3.) buy a cheap ebay short ram intake
4.) take the stock intake box and replace it with a k&n cone filter and take off resonator. (use stock intake to make a perhaps a high flow intake.)

any help or ideas would be apprecited. by the way i just purchased the car a month and a half ago. that is why i was supprised by the airfilter price.

thanks

I have the same car as you and I went with option #5, the V2. I can't really say I have tried out other intakes, but I can definately notice a difference in power. With the options you listed, it seems that you are on a limited budget so maybe the V2 isn't for you. If you want to add power and a better sound to your car then go with option 3. If you just want a clean air filter then go with option 1 or 2. You need to decide what you want to do with your car then make the decision accordingly.

right now $$ is an issue and i would like to not spend too much. my number thing on my to buy list is some springs. so, i think option 3 would be the best considering a K&N would run about $40 and a cheap ebay intake would cost $30-40.

shineylite, does replacing the ebay filter with a k&n make a big difference?

k&n and apexi are probably the best filters you can ever buy...the filter is where the power lies...not where the piping is from

i say make a cheap home depot piping and put on a k&n cone on it...or buy a k&n drop in filter

for thoes of you with V2's.........is there a problem with getting water in the intake?

when i installed my ballasts for my HID's i was soooo paronoid about putting them in the right place so they wouldn't get soaked with water, so i would check under the hood after driving in a good bit of rain............i always noticed that there is a good bit of water that will come in around the headlight housings if its raining hard and ur driving 45+ MPH.

and since i got a 98 2.3, i need a 98-99 2.3 accord 4-cyc V2 right? not the 97 2.2 accord 4-cyc V2.......

Man.......you should have gone with a ghetto pvc intake then put a cone k&n filter on it. Total like $30. I have a AEM CAI, but if moneys the issue then its not too bad of an idea.

I've only had mine for a few weeks but no water is getting up into the engine bay by the filter. Unless you drive into some 2-3foot puddles then I don't think any water will get in.
and since i got a 98 2.3, i need a 98-99 2.3 accord 4-cyc V2 right? not the 97 2.2 accord 4-cyc V2.......
I believe that both the 94-97 accord 4-cyl and the 98-99 accord 4-cyl will fit into your car. The difference is that the 98-99 is designed more like a CAI, so it goes into the front fender. The 94-97 is shorter and the filter sits right beside the battery. If you are worried about getting water in the intake then I would reccommend getting the 94-97.

Typhoon cold air intake with K&N filter. One thing though, If you live in an area with a lot of rain, avoid using the long pipe. If you suck in water, you will be screwed. If you are a purist, then spend the $20 and dont wory about keeping up with the Jones. The factory intake is good enough unless you are hot to trot and want to show off. When I bought my CL, I had to take the long pipe off. Too much rain on the streets.

Peace out, good luck.

I think K&N's are the best way to go. After you stick it in, remove the resonator. The resonator is routed to suck up hot air from the engine bay (don't know why Honda designed it this way). Once you remove it, it will be somewhat louder, but it will suck up cooler air. I don't think there is a big difference in power gain with this setup and with one of those short tube intakes. Also, short tube intakes are a lot louder.

I dont think it was a gay sounding thing, but it was really loud. Without even touching the throttle. Im going to test out my friends Iceman this weekend. He has a 2000 accord coupe 4clinder. Hope its ok, i wnna buy it off him for $50.

dont go back to oem.

i used to run the k&n drop-in, but the surface area of the filter was much smaller than stock.

i would go for a e-bay short ram, easy install.... good sound.

haiu....i noticed the small surface area of the aem drop in air filter and i was kind of skeptikle of it. i might have to return it and get a short ram ebay intake with a k&n cone filter. also, where is the resonator located. is it attached to the piping that goes from the filter box to th manifold or the plastic piping by the battery?

There are 2 resonators. There is a small one that goes between the throttle body and the airbox. It's small, doesn't do much, and you really can't remove it. The big resonator is under the airbox in the fender wall. Here is a link on how to remove it:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...emove+silencer

That's the one that routes hot air into your intake. I don't think those short tube intakes have a big difference between the stock air box+K&N. They may have more suface area, but there is no heat shield so it sucks in hot air from the engine bay. They are a lot louder too. If you are going to buy an intake kit and don't care about loudness and spending the extra $, just go all the way and get a cold air intake.

Another piece of advice on removing the resonator is to remove the front bumper light assembly. That way you can stick your hands in to remove the front bolt that secures the resonator. Also, when you remove the clips to the lining, pry out the center part and the rest will pop out easily. I tore a couple holes in my liner before Dustbuster told me the right way to remove the clips.
