adding stuff to gas tank
ok, so i recently took my car to the dealer b/c check engine light was on, turned out to be EGR ports clogged. thank god it was covered under an extended warranty i didn't know i had.
but anyway, i was talking to the service guy asking him how this can be prevented in the future, and he said adding a bottle of rubbing alcohol to a (relatively) empty gas tank and then filling up once in a while will help clean out impurities, etc.
he also mentioned using texaclin? or something made by texaco to clean the fuel system once in a while.
anyone ever heard of these procedure or use them?
thanks.

A guy near me who cleans injectors recommends a product by Borg/Warner called CLEEN. He says to put in a bottle, fill the tank with gas, run it to near empty, then only fill up with another five gallons (to get the most out of the additive). Then just fill up as normal.
I used Techron for years (because I heard it was good too). But my local WalMart stopped carrying it.
I'd check around because you don't want to put just anything inside your fuel system.

BG44k is a widely used gas additive "cleaner" by many mechanics. drop in a can into a full tank, drive around (preferably very fast on a highway, give the auto a real work out) and you're done

it's hard to find places that sell it in the states, but you can easily find it online. my question is, is this essentially the same thing as what the Seafoam does?

yes, the rubbing alcohol is 70% isopropyl alcohol. the stuff you buy at the store to put on cuts, etc.
it was the Acura service guy who recommended the texaco stuff, so maybe i'll try that.
thanks guys.
