Acura/Honda = reliable?
Well, I guess this isn't really a question, but I thought that Acura/honda was supposed to be very reliable. I just took my CL into the shop, and they started telling me all this shit that was wrong with the car. First of all, a motor mount BROKE!!!! I thought these were very very hard to break. Second, my power steering hose ruptured, and then my cd player broke (no big deal). I don't know what the hell happened. Then the proceeded to tell me that my hub, hub bearing, window regulators, and locking mechanisms were going out, BUT my warranty won't replace them because they are not actually broken yet?!?!?!? I know that this part isn't acura's fault, but what the hell, the car has l;ess than 60k on it and all this shit is going wrong? Well I can still say one thing, even though my car has some issues, I still love it. Thanks for letting me vent. :pfawk:  :thumbsdn:

im up to 218k and have spent very little in repairs, one window regulator, motor mount, cv joints and nothing else besides scheduled maintance (2 timing belts, oil changes). If thats not reliable i dont know what is

Sorry to hear about the problems!
From my experience, I'd say that Honda/Acura are pretty reliable.
My wife's 1993 Honda Accord is nearing 150K with no major problems. We had to replace the master cylinder at around 120K, but beyond normal maintenance (which can be expensive), no problems.
I sold my 1984 Honda CRX with over 150K, and it never had a problem. Granted the head gasket needed replacement.
I sold My 1990 Honda CRX with 130K when I bought the CL. The only part that conked out was the distributor at around 110K. It's still running today (sold it to a relative of a relative).
I sold my 1986 Civic with 156K. I only replaced the CV joints and clutch.
My grandparents had their mid-80s Accord for over 200K with no problems (needed a new clutch at 160K).
My Hondas have lasted longer than any car I've owned except for my 1987 Chevy Camaro which I also sold when I bought the CL. It had over 230K, and was still running strong. Granted I had the tranny rebuilt at around 200K (it towed a boat for about 5 years)!

I don't know what the hell is going on thoough, I thought motor mounts were supposed to last forever. Maybe my car is just the DEVIL!!!! Just Kidding

I'd call the service manager and ask if the motor mount is covered under warranty....it should. If he won't, keep going up the ladder. There's no way a motor mount should break. That's a defect.
I hear that the power window motor goes out alot on the CL's, so that's normal issue.

the power window is to be expected.
motor mount... maybe, but you can change that yourself.
honda/acura's are reliable. my car is approaching 90k and the only thing i need to replace is the clutch.

It's really easy to break the mounts on these cars if you drop the clutch often and/or get wheel hop a lot. OEM motor mounts are pretty squishy and flexible, so if you make the motor/tranny move around a lot, they're not going to last very long.
Did you buy your CL new?

Most cars are pretty solid, if not perfect, nowadays. Here's my history:
1997-present: 1997 2.2CL, 52k mi
1. 3 bad PCV valves (finally replaced with a bigger Purolator to make the problem go away)
2. cracked tranny case (replaced under warranty even though the car was out of warranty, thank you Park Ave Acura)
3. 1 broken window cable (to be expected)
1999-2001: 2000 2.5RS
1. casting debris in motor=blown motor at 2000 mi (warranty)
2. blown clutch at 15k mi (warranty)
2001-present: 2002 WRX, 25k mi
1. blown clutch at 12k mi (warranty)
2002-present: 2002 S2000, 8k mi
1. driver's side window doesn't auto-down (haven't fixed it yet)

Ok first of all the motor mount did not just break.
It broke because you drive like i do.
I had the same thing hapen to me.
with the motor mount broken the engine rocks when you floor it.
the rocking snaps the high pressure power stearing line
yea it sucks our windows break, im at 75K and have only had to replace the drivers side so far
i want to know why the smart car designers dident think about a light under the hood ?

i have 35k on my CL and my mom had it before me. The motor mount is broke on mine. Driver side Window regulator broke a couple of months ago. Cd player malfunctions sometimes especially when it is really cold.
I really believe these problems are associated with the fact that the CL was the first Honda that was assembled in America, I'd hate to say it.

Well, it still seems to be better built than that other Acura built in America, the 2nd gen CL/TL. At least we don't have tons of interior rattles and as many fried trannies.

My cl is going in for its 90k checkup pretty soon, i have to get one of the lights in my guages fixed, so that means every bulb under the guages gets replaced (like $200), then i need a new timing belt, my window regulators have gone down the shitter and im gonna need new ones, and my sunroof leaks and rattles.. It's not cheap to fix the car either, it really sucks..
