Abs
Yup. Mine just went out on me a few months back. The light came on and the next snowstorm I was sliding all over the place. Around the same time I started having a weird noise come from what sounds like the passenger side dash/glovebox when I started the car up, but goes away. I suspect the two things are related...
Our cars are way too big and heavy to not have ABS, especially if you have snow and ice to worry about. I'll get mine fixed someday - hopefully it's just the relay for them that got fried...

i was looking at some prices @ acuracarparts or whatever that site is and it said the ABS controller is 1000.00 !!! And what do you think my mechanic told me was broken? Yup - the controller! I believe him - he's one of my best friends - he said he can get one from the junk yard for me though for A LOT less - maybe even free - i still have to pay for the install though, which is more than fair - has anyone ever installed an ABS controller? It looks like something out of star trek with all the pipes everywhere!
<me, getting off the ground after reading the $1000 line> What? Really? That's not cool. At this point I'm starting to think that I should have just bought two cars - one for driving and one for parts. It probably would end up being cheaper. To the junkyard...
ok guys hate to break this to ya, but the ABS modulator is known for going bad in our cars. The sound you are hearing is somewhat normal. Its the abs pump filling up the resevoir. This happens when the car starts. The bad module makes the pump keep running which causes a pump overrun error. Thats why the ABS light comes on. You will just have to restart your car to reset the abs system. Oh and the bad part...the modulator is like $1500
