'97 CL Brake upgrade suggestions?

Hi all,

as all of you know... the '97 CL owners anyway... when it comes time to have the rotors replaced, it is a nightmare because every mechanic looks in their giude book and then look at you and go, "Well there's 5 hours labour to replace the rotors."

Any suggestions on what to do?
I was thinking making the switch to the 98/99 CL system if not to big a job. Maybe another solution?

Thanx in advance.

when I hit about 90-100 KM - the steering starts to vibrate and you can tell the car itself isn't driving smoothley... hence your rotors are warped!

The 1st time you can usually have them machined instead of replacing them, but the 2nd time around, more than likely must be replaced... which is where I am now.

the 98/99 rotors are different which is why it was an easy job, the 97's have a crappy system where you need to remove the whole assembly and use a rotor puller to get it off.

The '97 front rotors are a bitch to change unlees you have one of these: http://murtaughs.tripod.com/murtaughs/index.htm

It took me 4 hours with out the hub puller!

I have also considered changing over to the 1998/99 hub design. However, I'm not sure what it entails.

simply buy the 98-99 2.3 CL hub if you have a 97 2.3 CL and use 98-99 CL rotors, either 2.3 or 3.0 CL rotors will fit, both being rotor over hub, 10" vs 11".

if you drive a 97 3.0 CL, well I'm not certain if the 98-99 3.0 CL hub will fit or not, but if you check and the bearing is the same (probably is), you probably can try the 3.0 CL hub as well.

it's not the rotor that's the prob... it's the hub-over-rotor setup that's the prob.

Yeah, I did the upgrade instead of turning my rotors. I went thru www.irotors.com and got the drilled/slotted zinc plated rotors. I'll be posting pics tomorrow in the photos section. They cost around $265 and they send them out in a week after the zinc plating.

Dustbuster4 just ordered himself a new set and should have his anyday now.

BTW: They were Brembos!!!!

Do the upgrade and be like my avatar and 'Don't be THAT guy!!!'

i just replaced my rotors last week and it took all of 28 min. Pads included. Shit, even used some of that anti-brake squeal stuff
It probly just depends on how weathered everything is. I did the same thing on my girls old integra and it was a whore! It took me about three hours to replace the rotors.

I went to Irotors.com and didn't see any brembos....?

Also I went to the brembo website and they only show rotors for the front 97 3.0...the rear it justs says 97 but not whether it's for the 3.0 or 2.2...is the 97 rear rotor the same for both the 2.2 and 3.0?
