97 2.2l sohc vtec.i got oil on one of my spark plugs, and need assitance..

97 2.2l sohc vtec...5speed.. my car was running rough, like the power was cuttin out.. so i started checking the cap and rotor, distributor,,all good. i pulled th eplugs and one cylinder had oil on the plug. now i just recently within th elast year did the timing belt, which i replaced th evalve cover gasket.. I am wondering if its the seals underneath the cams...??? there two sets of seals or gaskets from what i understand. can u help out to distiguish wheatehr its the valve gasket or its the gadket under the cams..??

Yeah plug gaskets are easy. Just pick up the full valve cover gasket kit and it should come with them as well. Just unbolt the cover, take out the old crap, RTV up the new stuff.. stick em on and put it all back together. Take about an hour if you are meticulous. 15 - 20 if you are fast

I just discovered this problem as well. I wondered why I was burning so much oil so fast and smoking while in the process. This weekend I changed my plugs and wires and noticed some oil on my plugs.

I hope to god its not my rings.. So I will pick up this gasket set this week and throw it in this weekend.

You'll know your oil leak in the plugs is really bad when you hit redline and a plug wire jumps out of the motor. Had that happen to me once on the accord.. thought I blew a cylinder.

I have a question on this... On the outside of the gasket box it says not to use any chemical sealers. Like RTV..... I noticed when I took off the old gasket that there was no trace of old sealant... Do I or do I not put RTV on the seals???

I did all this and it is still smoking. Its a white/grey smoke.. Will the smoking immediatly go away after the gasket install or is it "an over time" thing? Like it has to burn what is in there first?
