A cheap
B blue colored
C $40+
this mod allows you to upgrade ur lighting for dirt cheap and outperform expensive aftermarket 9006 55 watt bulbs. if u start messing with aftermarket 9005s well then ur back to the same bs with aftermarket 9006 bulbs. of course you can buy $50 piaas, but then that defeats the whole purpose of the cheap mod in the first place.

As long as the bulb isn't higher than 60W, it shouldn't burn out. The wiring can handle that much.

9005s are 65 watt...
Regardless, I think the problem with our stock housings is that they don't cool enough. The bulbs get too hot, and burn up. It may be worse on cars that drive in the city, etc. Cars on the highways travel faster and move more air over the headlight. It may have nothing to do with that, it may be something with age. It may be some airway that gets blocked. When I took my stock 9006s out before installing my HIDs, both bulbs had some coating melting off of them (harded now). Take a look:http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_047.html

OEM 9005 bulbs are 60 watt. Period.
There is no coating on a glass bulb... the moron that installed your bulbs touched the glass and the oil from his/her fingers creates a hot spot on the glass, actually melting the glass in your case.
If you use quality bulbs for this project, they'll last a long time. I used 9005 Silverstars for low beams back in the day (before ANYONE mentioned this idea on this site) and they are still in the car now, probably a good 2-3 years later.
Ghetto bulbs ($5 specials on ebay, or even PIAA) will not last as long as an oem bulb.

It's not the glass on the bulb. I looked it over good, it's either a coating (maybe part of the tip) or some plastic from inside the headlight. I don't think it's the latter, b/c nothing looks/feels out of the ordinary inside either housing.
My 9005 high beams are 65 watt bulbs, so are my friend's 2000 Accord 9005s. Maybe they did something diff btwn years?
All I'm saying is that I think these "burn outs" are b/c of heat. Some of these fancy 9005s that supposedly put out more light, etc or the 100w bulbs that some peeps put in prob make tons more heat than stock. Jens said the first gen CLs just eat up low beams.

I put the 9005 silver star in my low beams and they have only lasted four months! I replaced the right bulb two weeks ago now the left one went out today! I was extremely careful not to touch the glass part of the bulb with anything (not even the headlight housing) I'm looking into a cheap HID solution now.

again u guys are all using aftermarket bulbs. the idea was that an oem $5 stanley 9005 bulb would outperform and outlast any aftermarket 9006 55 watt that cost $40+. and its 100% true. once u go trying to improve upon the general idea by using aftermarket bulbs many higher wattage ur getting into common problems with all aftermarket bulbs.
fyi 9005 stanely makes piaa platinum whites look yellow.
9005 piaa platinum whites make 9005 stanley look yellow.
the only bulbs ill vouch for are oem and piaa platinum whites. not extremes, not plasmas

silverstars last as long as an OEM bulb. They are designed with daily driven cars in mind, and also the law man. They do last.
But whoever mentioned it, the CL headlights do eat up bulbs... when I bought my cl with 20kmi on it, the low beam bulbs looked like Proaudio's. Acura replaced them when I bought the car (yes, I looked through the car that thoroughly before laying down any cash) with OEM bulbs of course, and another 20kmi later, I checked them out, and sure enough, the glass was melted/distorted and there were large black spots on each side of the bulb. The bulbs looked exactly like someone grabbed right a hold of the glass, but I know that wasnt the issue, as I WATCHED the guy at acura remove them from the packages and stick them in...

I just put in HI-LITE xenons 9005-65w and 9006-55w, bought them off of ebay for 25$, and they seem fine to me. It this a good brand? and why would they sell these after market bulbs is they supposively burn out all the time.

Hmm that looks really nice. Do you guys recommend the bulb the guy with the legend recommends? I might get me some of those after my inspection. That is another thing. Will I past inspection with 9005 in my 9006? That if the person doing it is not lazy to check? Sometimes they do sometimes they don't in my experience. They always check emissions though.
One other thing, the dude mentions a mod with using 9006 bulbs in his high beams. What is up with that? I didnt find his reason for that yet. Thanks all

btw guys i put in one of the 9005 highs in my low.
i used the stock ones and theres not that much of a difference (sorry). i htought there would be a huge difference but, while i can notice it, its not extremely apparent.
i have yet to put the other in because acura gave me a wrong bulb and we have all this damn snow, so i dont feel like getting the replacement yet
