3.0 CL CAI reviews

Okay... i just installed my AEM V2 in my 99 3.0 CL...
i wanna know what the 2.2/2.3's go through.. cuz it was kinda a bitch for the 3.0... had to take the resinator thing outta the bottom of the car.. and i broke 4 clips in the process of this installation.. each clip costing $4.53 CAD. at acura..

anyways.. my review for the V2 is.. 8/10
When i floored it.. MAN.. you wouldnt know the feeling unless you felt it.. The intake has the deepest growwl i've ever heard.. i swear the growl echo'ed like a mile in the neighbourhood.. it was really loud.. but when i was normal driving i cant hear the intake at all...

The worst part of this intake and only flaw is.
at IDLE... theres this ghostly ohmmmmm noise.. sounds like a microwave oven cooking something... its kinda like a electric noise.. its wierd.. but its really loud.. and its REALLY annoying.. anyone else have that ?..

i wanna compare this intake to a ebay .. so 3.0 CAI's step up!!

yeah, was definitely a bitch to install. I had never done anything whatsoever to a car before so I was kinda scared, and i didn't ahve the tools either so I ended up putting it back together and having a local shop instal it for $20.

I love the sound too. I get a lot of "holy shits" from the growl when I gun it. I was talking to a buddy after I raced his vette and I said "I paid like $20 per HP for the CAI", and he said "yeah but like $.50 per ubersound"

Sweet man, I installed my CAI today, $30 on Ebay, and it sounds like the exact same thing... the hum at idle, cant hear anything with normal driving, sounds incredible when vtec kicks in.

Ok but one disadvantage is that the mounting brackets are way off on the one i got, so its not very secure, but will be later today with some creativity lol.. but on the bright side I saved $200+

Worse part of the installation would be taking out the res.

We all have a slight hum when an intake..don't notice it as much anymore

ya maybe the hum is only noticible because its new to me.. i'll probably get use to it...
it kinda gives me a headache... its not really humm.. but more of a electronic humm noise that goes straight to your head.. im sure everyone at a stop light can hear it...makes my car sound like a spaceship.

i have the regular cai. recently took down the down pipe b/c of the flooding issues around my neighborhood, now it's loud as hell and it's quite annoying and i think my gas mileage took a hit too.

you're running without ANYTHING connected? eek.

Flooding is why I'll be switching to a V2 soon on my 97 and selling my CAI.

It's mainly the filter. AEM's use the AEM filter or K&N filter. If you get an ebay intake and add a K&N filter, it's almost like having an AEM intake in your car.

i'm guessing the 98-02 accord 3.0 intake will fit our 3.0.. so something like this is probably what i'll end up buying and putting on the K&N filter.

I dunno, for this kind of application, I wouldn't really trust anything but reputable companies. I can just imagine the intake pipe itself rusting away and throwing bits of metal into the engine.

haha thats a scary thought ^^

anyway my ebay intake kinda sucks, no pun intended, the mounting brackets are off and the seller said it fit the 97 3.0 but the second pipe that goes down where the stock resonater was is too long and the filter hangs way too low, and with it that low the plastic piece thats part of the fenderwell lining wont go back on... sooo mines like a short ram now. oh and around 5k rpm since the intake isnt attached to anything you can hear the filter rattling against ..something lol, so i think soon im gonna go with a V2 also

Dude, my old short-ram intakes' hummm was 2-3 times louder than the V2.

I thought I liked the sound of my SRI better than the V2, but after a night on the town, I completely changed my mind. It sounds way better through the entire RPM range, and has better throttle response in the lower RPMs.
My only complaint was that the intake was engineered for the 98-02 Accord which has a different route for one of the vacuum lines I guess. There is a tab welded to the top of the intake which is supposed to zip-tie and attach the line to this tab, but our cars don't have that and it looks stupid not doing anything, or holding anything in place. I'm almost tempted to cut it off, grind it down, and repaint the whole intake.

Did any of you guys get (3) 3" clamps with your V2? I had to go out and get a 4" clamp for the filter. There was no way in hell I would have got the clamp they supplied to work with the filter.

I had that problem with the ratling. I fixed it with these hardened asbestos fittings. I glued them to the fender wall, and the air filter and piping rest on these fittings. Also, as for creativity, I used elongated zip-ties to secure the intake. I shortened the downpipe to prevent flooding. And most definately, I have the spaceship hum. I like it. I did notice that the sound carries. I could even hear it in the house when I ran in to get some forgotten something and left it idling in the driveway. Then of course, there is the WWWHHHOOOOOSSSHHHH when I hammer it.

I am certain there is a picture of my setup on here somewhere.
