3.0 to 3.5 swap
1. Can it be done?
2. Can you use same engine mounts or do new ones need to be made?
3. Can I use my trans from my 3.0 it was just rebuild 20k ago?
4. Do I need a different ECU?
Thank you everyone who answers. Currently I'm in school for automotive and in the process of getting a scholarship from Acura in Limerick PA, always a plus having your mom work there. I'm taking an engine class right now and rather that rebuild one of the school engines that have been rebuild millions of times I want to rebuild a 3.5 and put it in my 99' 3.0 CL.

Hopefully cocoa can weigh in, he knows the most about the tranny bolting up. The lower block for the 3.5's and 3.0's are the same casting, but the heads and upper may give you trouble

1. Yes
2. Google is your friend but I believe not all mounts can be used
3. I'm sure you can
4. Might as well use to the ecu from the 3.5 to run it perfect, they're pretty cheap depending on which car you get it from.
Are you rebuilding it with OEM parts? & Which 3.5 are you going with?

1. Yes it can!
2. You can use the same engine mounts as long as its the J35A1 or J35A4 short block. (Odyssey engines....I won't bother posting the MDX engine codes as they are just more expensive. The differences between the two are additional ribs in the mdx block and the mdx cylinder walls can withstand higher heat)
3. Yes, the transmission will bolt up to these engine blocks.
4. Not at all. Use your stock ecu, but you would definitely benefit from a piggyback with a tune after this.
I'd like to add a few things now. If you'd like to use your stock 3.0 short block, here are the part numbers to rebuild that bottom end to make it a 3.5L
-= hondaautomotiveparts.com =-
'02-'04 Odyssey (crankshaft)
Product No. 368270 or
Honda part #13310-PGK-A00
'02-'04 Odyssey (connecting rod)
Product No. 368269 or
Honda part #13210-PGK-A00
Main bearings + rod bearings
I would also like to recommend, since you would be rebuilding this bottom end to just use CLS pistons to increase your CR from 9.6:1 to 10.5:1. It would amount to about 2% to 4% more power over stock pistons. acuraautomotiveparts.org I believe is where I bought them for $50 each.
Hope this helps.

I can't thank you guys enough for all your help. I love this site everyone on here is very helpful. I am looking at a J30A1 out of an 99-01 odyssey. I would mind using 3.5 parts on my 3.0 but this is my only transportation and I'm in school 5 days a week and work 6 days a week I rather have something I can work on on the side. The rebuild kit I've been looking at I think is OEM but I'm not sure. The main plan is to rebuild the 3.5 and put it in my car and then rebuild the 3.0 and sell it but only if its worth it. And again I can't thank you guys enough for everything.

Just one more question if I take out my passenger side seat can I fit the engine in my car and can the inside handle the weight. I found a good deal on one but its a 5 hour drive to get it.

I'm probably going to rent a truck from uhaul or home depot. I'm not sure if its a long block or short block. And I am going to put a CL Type-S ECU in once I'm done taking it apart and cleaning it. The listing I found said J32A2 Type-S engine with wiring harness. I called the guy and it is a complete engine with everything and only has 44k on it.
