2.3 modded VS 3.0 $$$

Alright you guys should be able to answer this. I have a 98 2.3 5-speed with full exhaust, CAI, Headers, and plug wires. Velox 17's with kuhmo tires new. No spare. I'll take out my 2 12's. 40K miles on it. My good friend just got a 97 3.0 auto all staock and thinks he'll kill me. 95K on it. He wants to put 100 bucks on it. (We're both 17) Do I have a chance??? I'm a good driver and he's not, not that it matters too much for his auto. Let me know what you guys think because I'm not putting cash on it if you guys think I'll loose. Thanks

i dont know......im stock and raced my buddy in his 3.0....he killed me....we were both stock....so i just dont know...it could close...i say race for less...100 can get you places

ull take him for an 1/8 mile, or maybe till 1/4 ull have him, not after that . he will start pulling on you after that but u have stick so u can rev higher and its quicker for u to change gears

I've beat every 3.0 CL that i've raced in my auto 2.3 CL. Even have a video of one 3.0 racing me and me spanking it by atleast 4 car legnths maybe more.
But then again I have alot more mods than your 2.3. It should be a close race especially since you have a 5 speed.

dcquirm88 what else does your 2.3 have besides the 75 shot. also do you think a 50 shot would be really bad since my engine isn't built. thanks

HEY ALLBLACK : Ask KC CL 1785....hes got a 97 2.2 with short ram intake...ive got a 97 3.0 with (well look down at what ive done to it) And we raced, His is a stick and ofcourse mines Auto...you might get him off the line but 1/4 he'd have you...if you only do 1/8 then you will get him.

Also, when you do race, make sure that you knwo what the person flagging you is going to do. When i raced KC CL on the street, the person flaging us when to a half stage (where they put their hangs form the air out to the side, and THEN down which means go...i screwed up and thats why the 2.2 got me off the line...

1/4th mile , id be careful...he might get you, take that $100 and get an intake so he can keep beating you...lol

PS: Im 17 also, where the Hell did you get all the $ to get theose mods!?! Im broke!

I think it would be close, my body has a 2000 prelude with all the basic boltons and we are dead even

Yeah but does your buddy have skunk2 stage 2 cams, crower stainless steel valves skunk2 dual spring valve springs with skunk2 titanium retainers, JG cam gears, JDM Prelude type S pistons with crower rods, port and polished head, aem fpr, str fuel rail, vafc, every single bolt on, stage 3 act clutch, msd, and a bunch of other stuff?
If he does and he still only as fast as a 3.0 then I just wasted a ton of money

I beat the 30s off the bottle. All it takes is driving. The races are close but I take them. The trans compensates greatly for the lack of 2 cylinders.

What did you race to? I still don't believe anyone saying the 4 cylinders can hang with the 6s in a highway speedrun w/o smurf juice.

Who needs juice to beat a 3.0? :P

That 2.3's going to have a few more bolt ons before the 3.0 is do able. By a few I mean ALL of them not just I/H/E w/no tuning.

The most HP I got when NA was 143hp. A 200 hp 3.0 w/ 30% loss is right at 140.

I think 30% loss is a bit extreme. 25% is more likely, still making it around 150hp for the 3.0 stock and it also weighs about 200 lbs. more. So with every kind of tuning and bolt on, the 2.3 can hang.

30%??

That's a bit much. It's more like 20-25%. Even a little less than 20% if modded correctly.

This thread is going to get intresting. It looks as though it's turnig into a who's better, a 4-banger or a 6-shooter!!

First off the discussion is about a modded 2.3 and a STOCK 3.0.

Obviously one engine has 50 more hp from the start and thus is faster. So if you mod both to the extreme, of course the 3.0 will still be faster.

How exactly do you plan on lowering the drivetrain loss to less than 20%, which is not that far off from the manual, which is around 15%. Are you saying it's possible to almost eliminate the advantage that the manual have in drivetrain loss? A lot of people would love to know that if it's true, but I've never heard of it.

The 23 puts down about 120 something hp at the wheels on a dyno with no mods what does a 30 do anyone know???

Im telling you guys its all in the trans for the 23 to beat the 30. I read an acticle about the new Mach 1 mustang (its my roomates mag I call him the mustang princess must need the compensation of a V8 or something) anyway the stick one almost cut a second off the 1/4 mile time. Obviousely it wont do the same on a 4 cyl but if you know how to drive it is your best friend.

Accord V6 year??

Theres two stock dynos and doesnt say what year but heres the text and the pic

Purple/Green graph (stock) = 153-154 HP
Red Graph (AEM Short Intake) = 164 HP
Blue Graph = Ignore this one...




Numbers dont match the graph, but looks like stock is 160 hp. 25% loss.

I never would have gotten to 160 with bolt ons. I had just about everything and only got 143 (stock fly and no VAFC). Thats still 17 hp away (lots of bolt ons worth)

Dont know about the gearing/driving...just commenting on the power of the two.

You only wish C.J., I ave only a short ram intake and BAD clutch and barely lost in the 1/4, I lost by .1 seconds. Oh and C.J., we raced more than once, I smoked you at least three times, and technically I did beat you all three times (to the very end). C.J. is a liar!!!! BTW, I have a 5spd, so you may a harder time off the line.
