1998 Acura Cl 2.3 auto prices?

I currently have a 99 Ford Contour that I am looking to unload in favor of the aforementioned car. I would like the car to have < 36,000 miles. After harsh negotiations, what amount can I expect to pay for this car? I have seen several online in the 17000 range. I can afford 15000. Is it possible to get them down this low? Thanks guys. First time posting here.

There's one in ebay. Right now, I think the highest bid is $12400. It has 43k miles though.

Ya, I think you should be able to find a good one for around 15,000. I got my 97 2.2 for 15,100 with 34K and that was in January of 2000. First Gen CLs really came down in price since the newer body style has been out. You should be able to find a bunch of 98s with people just coming off there 3 yr leases. Good luck!

I would think that you ought to be able to do this. I bought a 1997 3.0CL from Park Acura (Akron, OH) for $15500 just a few months back. It has more miles that what you want (~50k), so you may have to increase your mileage requirement some.

Mine is certified, incidentally, so I wasn't terribly worried about the mileage.

Similarly, my friend bought his 1998 3.0CL for around $17000 with ~40k miles. Since the 3.0CL is leather and V6 and such, there ought to be a few thousand between the 2.3 and 3.0.

That said, I can't say that I've seen hardly any 2.xCL's for sale.

I'll sell you mine in about a month or two!! The mileage is a litte higher then you're looking, but I have the extended warranty which covers 5 yrs / 75k. If you're in the market late May, early June, let me know!!

Thanks for the offer, but i am looking for the 2.3 and not the 3.0 for insurance reasons. My driving record is flawless, but I am only 22, so i need to drive a 4 banger for a little bit longer. Also, I would like to get either black or white with black leather interior. I think black on black is the best for some reason.

Depending on your market, you should be able to get one for around $14,000 - $15,000 range, with around 35,000 miles.

I hear ya on the insurance. I just turned 24 a couple of months ago so I'm in the same bracket as you. Luckily, my father is kind enough to insure it under his name and save me some serious cash until I get married next year. Thank God he was willing to do when I bought the car new, or I'd be screwed!! Good luck and keep us posted....

You could still get cloth in '98, '99 was leather only though.

Hey, I have a 98 2.3 with the silverish-red color. It has black leather interior, and 47,000 miles. I have changed the oil religiously! and just got the 52000 mile checkup by acura(I know I got it done early, just wanted to) well I am willing to sell, b/c I really need the money now. I live in texas, and I am sure we could work out a shipping aggreement. Add ons include (Custom cat-back exhaust; clear corners; hiper white lights all inside and out; custom shift knob. I ordered a Venom 400 and it hasn't arrived yet, and I won't install it if you are interested, and don't want it) well, that about sums it up. Feel free to e-mail me if you are interested. Thanks

Again, I appreciate the offer , but I need automatic, and I would prefer mine to be black. Also, I need to buy from a dealer probably so I can get it certified so i get the 100,000 mile powertrain warrantee.

Thanks,
aj

When my friend (mentioned above) bought his 1998 3.0CL, he did a comparison of the various insurance rates between an Accord Coupe, Integra, 2.3CL and 3.0CL. As I recall, the Accord Coupe was significantly below the CL's, and there wasn't an enormous difference between the 2.3 and 3.0. The Integra was above all of them for whatever reason, but that's neither here nor there.

You might want to call up your insurance company (or use www.progressive.com) and through some what-if's at them.

What you might want to do is get an Accord Coupe (available in both 4 and V6). It's not as "exclusive" as a CL, but it's still a nice car (and it drives identically).

I agree, black on black does look good (that's what both myself and my friend have). The only problem is that it is SO hard to keep it clean. For that reason, I would recommend rosewood ("silver"), but they're both nice.

That is interesting to hear that the Integra cost more to insure than the CL. I guess they suppose that the Integra is probably gonna be driven more "offensively" than the CL. I will make some calls today, and see how much insurance costs. Unfortunately, I live in NJ, and we have the highest car insurance rates in the Nation i think. Hopefully they aren't too higher than what my Contour is right now. Will let you guys know.

Not yet , but it is still my top choice. I just started my internship 3 weeks ago, which pays good enough for me to be able to save about 6-7 K this summer. I plan on buying the car at the end of the summer. I will definately come here the minute I buy the car!

Definatly go to an acura dealership... and definatly go for the certified cars... it makes such a big difference even in the way the people treat you after the sale. In february I bought a 97 3.0CL, certified for $21,000 with tax... I know thats too high, but mine only had 19,000 miles on it, and some old dude owned it before me, so the car still looks brand new. But if i do recall, they had a 99 2.3 with an automatic when I bought my car with 42kmi on it for $16,500, it was even black, I was gonna get that, but I liked the mileage on the 3.0 better. Good luck in your search, and I can check with my dealer for you to see if they can find something in Poughkeepsie, NY for you, thats a little closer to you... maybe they have something, or they can also check the dealers in NJ, i'll give them a call in the morning and post any results to maybe help you out in your search.

I actaully live 10 minutes from an Acura dealership, in Turnersville NJ, and they did have a white one, but where offering it for like 20. The way I figure it is, I am paying 200 a month for my current car, do I can definately afford to spend at least 240-250, which would allow me to get a 10 K loan. I figure I can sell the car, pay off the loan, and have about 2 K left over, the difference I would save this summer. It seems like a sure bet. Hopefully I will have options at the end of the summer! Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I got my loaded 99, black 3.0, about 7 months ago. I paid about $21k US for it. It had only 10k miles, and the warranty is until 100k KMs. Do you guys think its a good deal ? The car was immaculus also, but hell, with the crappy paint and clear coating... I have no way keep it like it was when i first bought it. Anyone interested in buying ?? hehe
