Transmission Fluid - Replace Vs Flush

i've studied the owner's manual and in the maintenance section it indicates the transmission fluid should be 'replaced' at 45k miles, and every 30k thereafter. does that mean drain and refill once?

in the transmission section of the manual it describes how to 'flush' the transmission by draining and refilling 4x. when is that done? the implication is that if you've used dextroniii it is only temporary, and you must then 'flush' the transmission.

i thought i'd do a 'flush' regardless as i've just purchased this car used with 50k miles on it, and i'm not certain if the transmission fluid has been 'replaced' according to the maintenance schedule.

anybody have an idea as to what is really meant by 'replace' that's indicated in the maintenance schedule?

Drain and fill several times until it is clean and you will be good for quite a while.

actually, i was just having some transmission problems and I did a drain and fill and the transmission feels brand new. Definitely drain and fill.....you're gonna need about 16 quarts.

There's a reason why manufacturer's don't flush transmissions anymore.

Do a drain and fill.

Flush your trans - big chance

i did a 4x drain/fill. went through a case of fluid. shocking how dirty it was with only 51k miles on it...

only $67 a case with free shipping from acurawholesaleparts.com

btw 'flush' in the manual implies 4x drain/fill (see my first post)

on the other hand, i agree that a 'flush' with a machine by someone who's 'allways wanted to work on a transmission' is a death wish...

We have our service coming up for differential and tranny fluid replacement (we have 75k on the car). How many drain and fills should I plan for on the tranny? Someone said 16 qts but I believe that was for the 45k service. Also, should I do the same for the differential or is that just one drain/fill?

Thanks in advance!
