The 09 is a beauty. I would go test drive an X5 and an MDX and see what suits you better.

it depends on which X you want:
My X5 xDrive30i
3.0-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine
xDrive, intelligent all-wheel-drive
See all standard features
Base MSRP $47,100
Alpine White $0
Black Nappa Leather $2,400
Dark Burl Walnut wood trim $0
Premium Package $3,200
Premium Sound Package $1,850
Technology Package $2,600
3rd row seat $1,700
Comfort seats with lumbar support $1,200
Heated front seats $500
Satellite radio with 1 year subscription $595
Destination & Handling: $825
Total MSRP as Built $61,970

which is pretty close to an MDX which you can get easily for 45 OTD like this. I don't think real wood, panoramic sunroof and the BMW logo is worth an extra 15K. But if it was the x5xdrive48, its a different story.

yeah i have test drove the x5 many times even the new generation
but the MDX i havent.
a bimmer is a bimmer
my dad just bought a 535 and my mom has 03 x5
but i am more of an japanese engine guy.
and acura gives more for the dollar.
the MDX is obviously a bigger V6
so yeah
i think now it just involves me test driving the two.
i love both of their head lights
the bright xenon on the MDX
and the angel eyes on the X5
the panoramic roof + on X5
300 hp on the MDX is a +

but in a heart beat i would pick the RDX over the X3

haha the 3rd row seating on the X5 is a joke, the german expect us to be 100lbs and as thin as a 3 year old to sit in it.

It shows that you're 18, out of curiousity, why do you want an SUV?

I see you currently have a TSX...from someone who has both a TSX and an MDX, make sure you want an SUV and have driven one extensively before making such a decision. They drive completely different (and obviously serve very different purposes)...unless you have a need for cargo space and/or a third row seat, my guess is that over time, you'll get bored of having an SUV and want something more sporting in character...

Just because I am 18, doesnt mean i dont know my cars. I grew up knowing cars since i was born. I tend to make salesman at dealers look stupid when they dont know the car they are selling. Well i had a honda passport for almost 2 years, then gas price went up. my mom has an x5. plus less blind spots. everyone has a type of suitable class of car they want. always liked a more crossover sportier suv. MDX and X5 both have it.

what i would want in the X5 is just the sport package(i like the anthracite headliner), with the aero kit on it, it makes the car worthy to drive. iPod USB
premium package was a must, before the panoramic roof and xenon lights were not standard. I would want it in alpine white, with of course nappa leather. AND HELL YEAH the 4.8 litre V8.

Never said you didn't know cars, I questioned whether you really wanted to go from a TSX to an MDX/X5.

You mentioned you gave up the Honda Passport because of gas prices, yet you want the 4.8L V8 in the X5 xDrive48i which gets 14/19. With the Sport/Premium/Aero/USB-iPod/Nappa options, the X5 xDrive48i is $68,120. Keep in mind this is without navigation. A fully optioned X5 xDrive48i can hit over $76,000.

Let your Mom get the '09 X5, drive her '03 X5...there's no hurry to rush into a $60K+ car, you have plenty of time for that...if you must get a new luxury SUV, an optioned-out MDX (with nav) at $48K makes a lot more sense. I believe you and your family will be happier in the long run...

Well, i gave up my honda passport because gas prices were going up, for a 3.2 litre it was getting 16 mpg. Which was horrible. On the X5 i added it up, which would be 56k. I never wanted the 4.8, i just said it is one hell of a vehicle.
