Anyone out there have an 07 MDX? What are you getting for gas mileage?

I get 22 in my TL, which is pretty terrible i think personally since all i do is drive HWY

I was going to post this is the MDX section but its a ghost town.

My wife wants me to drive a safer car in the winter now that i have two kids to feed and trade in my TLS.

She wants the RDX, but im not a big fan

I could also switch to an RL i guess... since its AWD

TL-S already is a very safe car. If you really need a bigger vehicle, I'd say trade it in. If you don't, don't do it.

Anywho, just get snow tires on your TLS and my guess it will be safer than the MDX on all seasons.

I had an MDX as a loaner. IMO it is nice looking on the outside but bulky on the inside. I didn't like the dash and placement of the buttons, and the seats were uncomfortable imo. Unless you are planning on going on backpacking/on any other roads other than concrete/asphalt I would definitely stay with the TLS.

It really depends on your needs. A AWD vehicle will be better in the snow, granted you have decent tires. And the MDX section is not a ghost town, its new. you will get very quick responses in there, I promise

the MDX is a nice car, its a bit slower than the TL-S, but the SH-AWD on onramps and offramps make you forget it. Honestly, both cars a very safe, the TL is a great winter car with some decent snow tires, the stock ones won't cut it. The MDX is a great winter car with stock tires, but with dedicated snows you will have unbelieveable grip.

I like the MDX's a lot, 04-06 are awesome SUV's...Haven't had a chance to drive a 07+ yet.

The TLs is a very safe car. Of course the AWD will probably be better in the snow from a traction standpoint, but it's not bulletproof. I think a sedan with good tires is more than OK for winter.

I have an RDX and I would not trade from a 2008 TL-S to it. It is nicer to load kids, etc., but not enough to take the depreciation hit. The back seat is similar--it may feel a bit more roomy because of the higher seating position and deeper foot wells. We bought it because it is easier to deal with kids in car seats in a elevated vehicle.

The MDX has a lot bigger cargo area than the RDX if that is what you are looking for. The back seat is bigger too, especially in width. It will definitely not be as fun to drive as the TL (the RDX splits the difference a bit).

The winter tire thing is a difficult one to answer.

Keep in mind i drive almost 4k miles every month (when my wife isnt having a baby)...so i will go through a set of winter tires and their soft compounds in a season. I know because ive done it.

The mickey's that come with the TL are complete garbage and the worst tires i have ever ridden in the snow. BUT the car was BRAND NEW so i wanted to at least get some use out of them...now i have 26 on em and they already look pretty worn down...


Anyway i know that the TL is as safe as the MDX--its a perception thing. I will do alot of keep my wife happy and not worrying about me so i can go make money. Im still talking to dealers but honestly i dont really thinks its going to happen. I think im just going to try a new set of allseasons...

I LOVE my car...just not as much as my wife

she wont let (well..."doesnt fee comfortable with" we all know what that means) me bring the kids in the TL if the roads are even wet

Secondly... you SC boys dont know jack when it comes to driving 300 miles in a blizzard. Slide into the ditch on the NYS thruway when is 18 degrees and then come tell me you wish you were driving a sports sedan. choosing to drive up to go skiing is alot different than being FORCED to drive home from TOR in a snow storm.

The TL is a great winter car. I've been caught in several snow storms with it, and have never had a problem. Even leaving many SUVS in the ditches, and plowing through snow up to the top license plate. It's 98% how you drive.

Now, the XC70 is nice, but I bet she's the type of woman that can't have a wagon. I had a V70 and loved every second of it. And that's with 3 kids.

Personally, I say go Subaru. No, not a fanboy, I just sold my 2G TL and got a Legacy and the AWD is great. Plus, they are rated very high for safety, and you don't look like a dork if you get a GT.

If you want a bigger vehicle with more room, then get the MDX, but I wouldn't get it just because your wife thinks the TL is unsafe. I would just get the cheapest snow tires you can find for the winter, that way you can get 1-2 seasons out of them with the number of miles you drive. I had total confidence when driving my CL in the deep snow with the blizzaks on.

This may be one of those times you just have to tell the wife you know best!!

My wife drives our 2006 MDX and I drove a 2003 TL-S (now an '08 TSX). With about 65% city driving, we get about 18.5 mpg in the MDX. With about 50% city driving, I got roughly 22.5 mpg in my TL-S (I now get 26.2 mpg in my TSX). Here in SoCal, we don't even know what winter tires are, but every March we trek into a local mountain town and the AWD MDX is a gem in the snow.

Even more important, we've always had an SUV for Home Depot runs and carrying the extended family to various outings. For us, having the ability to carry wood/supplies and being able to take up to 6 other people to a holiday gathering is just as (or more) important than trekking through the snow. We're planning that it'll be especially useful when we have kids.

I'm not sure what your wife drives, but having a sedan and an SUV works for us...good luck with your decision!

I moved from a 2006 TL to an '08 MDX. The TL was our baby and I was sad to see her go, but with a new child, the MDX's cargo space is priceless vs. the TL. Otherwise, we wouldve kept the TL.

I'm in San Diego so snow is not an issue, but the SH-AWD system is pretty incredible and I've pushed it pretty hard. The MDX still surprises me at how agile and sporty it is.

That being said, I'm tempted to trade in my BMW 3 series (the other car) on a used 07 TLS hahaha.

If I were going to get hit by a Semi that was going to fast in the snow, I would rather be in a SUV. I'm just terrified that I'm going to get trapped in my car... Just a personal thing. We had a 04 Mitsubishi Montero Limited 4WD and the reason we bought it was for runs to Colorado and the snow. AWD is a big plus for going up/down steep icy hills, driveways, etc.

Plus, I've put my nephew's car seat in my car before, and it gets extremely old bending over and getting him in and out. A raised vehicle FTW if you have kids.

Today, I was parked by a busy intersection. I seen a SSM 2008 MDX come flying down the road, he slammed on the brakes and the car just sucked down and stopped. No dive or anything. It just seemed to glide to a stop. He was going somewhere in a hurry because when the light changed, he put it on the floor and turned left. No body roll, just clean performance. BTW, SSM 08 MDXs are pure sexyness on the street.

I traded my 06 TL AT NAVI for an 08 MDX Tech Entertainment NAVI. The rear entertainment system is great when you have passengers that are "old enough" (meaning in a couple of years! ) to enjoy it. The SH-AWD is definitely much more sure-footed in the snow than my TL was. I drove the thing around here (Central CT) last winter with basically bald tires, turning off the VSA so *I* was in control, and did fine. But, the new setup is definitely better. I could only imagine how it would be with dedicated snows.

The MDX is not - I repeat NOT - as comfortable as the TL. The TL is smoother, feels tighter, and the seats hold you a whole lot better. However, overall, I'm happy with my choice as I have passengers and gear to tote around from time to time (including amplifiers, guitars, and other miscellaneous band gear) for practices or gigs.

I think you really have to go back to why you bought the TL in the first place and understand if your needs have *really* changed.

The "S" is an interesting option for the TL, but never really "called out to me" as I was very happy with the performance of my stock TL. If it had more cargo space (especially for larger items), I probably would have kept it. The car is fine in the bad weather, especially with dedicated snows, and there's no safety issue that I'm aware of.

If she's hell bent on you getting something safer, get an 09 TL SH-AWD as a compromise.

Aside from safety and performance, big reason for MDX over TLS (or in general, suv over sedan) is u re likely to be less tired because your eye is further from the ground while u re driving.
