Strange power issue (voltage)

Strange power issue (voltage)
So I just got back from vacation and the MDX has been sitting for a week. In that time the grass grew so I was cutting that and needed to move the truck. So I started it up and moved it 10 feet and left it running. When I came back 5 minutes later it was no longer running. Completely dead! No power no clicking, not even a faint illumination of any bulb. So I grabbed my charger and after a few minutes there was still nothing. So I traced the wires out thinking it might be a fuse issue. In the large box in the back passenger side there is a 120A fuse for the battery. One side comes from the battery the other side looks to be the alternator. I decided to take a look at that and when I start to remove the screw on the alternator side I have power again. Not enough to start the truck but at least things light up and you get that rapid clicking. So now I am suspect the alternator is somehow shorted to ground and is pulling the whole system down. Does this make sense based on what I am seeing? Just really confused at this point.

In case anyone has a similar issue it appears to have been the alternator. I swapped it out tonight and the truck fired right up. Hope it stays that way. If the alternator you get doesn't seem to fit check the bushings. One of mine was out a bit and a couple taps with a hammer got it to drop in.
