OFF ROAD Trip MDX Edition.

Hi folks!

Just wanted to share my experience with the MDX as an Off Road Vehicle.

Before I get rants about how the MDX is not an off road vehicle let me clarify first. My main use for the MDX is HIGHWAY USE, I didn´t buy the car to be doing this 24/7 so please refrain from saying the MDX is not designed for this and blah blah blah, As you will see the car is more than capable of performing at this off road conditions.

Before I went with the MDX my main possible car was a 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI (Quadra-Drive II) Trail Rated with Lockable Diffs, Longer suspension travel and ride height etc...
But after a short Test Drive it proved 2 things: THE HEMI IS AWESOME! and the Gas Mileage was ridiculous, I had to fill up what I used in a very short test drive I wasted 15 bucks of gas and then the cherry:

Horrible lack luster materials and a design that came straight out of 1999. After a long deep chat with the Wifey we decided the Jeep was just overkill equipped for what we wanted to do as Off Road is concerned, and we both agreed the dashboard was crap.

As a long time Acura owner we looked at the MDX and made the Test Drive.. Short to say this basically sealed the deal:

Now to the present.
The MDX uses the same platform as the Honda Pilot which was designed with Off Road in mind, So the amount of off road that we wanted to do with the MDX was "light" not Hardcore Off Road thus the Jeep was just too much car for our needs and still is.

The Route:
So I went to my Parents house in México it is located in a place called "Puerto Escondido" in "La Bufadora" Ensenada, Baja California.. Before getting to the off road that takes you to Puerto Escondido there is small town located down some miles before. In that town there are a lot of roads that lead to the mountains all of there are off the road that we tried before but stopped due the lack of gasoline so we said next time we were going to climb the mountains!.
Prior to recording this video I was charging up the GoPRO with the MDX 120v outlet we were trying to get as high as we could on the mountains and start recording there but we came across damage in the road that stop us from getting higher (FYI: No Car unless heavily modified would cross that damage in the road it was a huge hole in the ground that would made the MDX tip over).

So I started recording my way down instead and tried a new route too.
BEFORE PLAYING IT TURN YOUR VOLUME DOWN!! (For some reason there is a lot of Bassy Noise in the video, My Bass levels is always at neutral so I dunno where this Bass Noise comes from).

Needless to say... Nothing broke, No weird noises, No interior rattles, No damage done to the tires or suspension, The only bad thing was the mileage at 7mpg best

Here are some pics of the places I stopped.

It is nice to see someone taking advantage of the capabilities of this SUV+sh-awd other than using it as a tall station wagon like most of us. I've taken my MDX off road a few times for biking/hiking. I'm impressed with its road handling and grip when more TQ is sent to the rear tires. The MDX is a pretty good off road hill climber.
