Loud screeching noise from rear speakers

Hey all! I've got a 2004 MDX, and a problem just came up with it. I tried searching around for about an hour, but came up with nothing

Anyway, I was driving around last night with the radio set to TAPE (for my ipod) but the ipod was not connected. I took a 90 degree left and all of a sudden I got a loud screeching noise from the rear speaker. If I took a (fairly) hard right, it would go away.

I took off the rear speaker grill, and everything looked (and smelled) fine. No burned wires or anything.

Does anyone have any idea where to start looking for the issue? Any help would be appreciated.

was the tape adapter in there though? Maybe it could be going bad? If it is, why not upgrade to and ipod interface that uses the radio directly? Tape adapters are usually the lowest ipod adapters.

It would make the noise on any setting FM, CD, etc). A couple of days ago the radio stopped turning on and the clock doesn't display either. I'm thinking the radio died. Is this a common failure?

hmm it happens enough that my dealer fianance manage who is a good friend said that it's the primary reason he pushes the extended warranties. Because the are expensive to replace. I'd check on Ebay for another stock radio or get an estimate from Acura to send it off for repairs.

I've poked around ebay for a bit to see what I could come up with, and I see that all the radio units are listed as radio w/o nav. Anyone know if the radio is different for a car that is equipped with nav?

I thought I would share the outcome. I ended up picking up a used deck on ebay for $180. The dealer was able to get me the radio code for free (I'm shocked, too).

The install was super easy. Pop off the "wood" trim, 6 screws to secure the deck and nav screen, and another 14 to secure the two together (seems excessive).

Plugged it in, and everything worked first time. Install is the reverse.

I did figure out what killed my deck, though. I found a handful of pennies rattling around in it. It turns out my 2 year old dropped them in the tape deck when my wife and I weren't looking.
