OEM filters for me, just stay with a quality filter and regular OCI's. I like OEM because, well....they were engineered for the specific car they're on.

They are actually just an aftermarket filter rebranded. I use Purolater Pureone's in mine. I know they are quality, maybe not the absolute best money can buy, but they are highly respected. You can catch them onsale and with coupon from Advance Auto and get them for around $3 so I stock up. Besides being a quality filter, the rough sides make it good for the DIYer. I think it is so stupid to think other companies don't copy their texture. A slick, oily filter sucks to take off.

There are a few quality brands. Find one on sale, DIY, and don't over tighten it.

I have always used OEM. Had the dealer throw in 6 when I bought my car. You can order them online from any OEM parts dealer.

I use mobil-1 filters (same as K&N without the nut). I 'm going to be switching to Royal Purple filters though since I can get them cheaper cause Summit Racing is just down the street from my work.

You guys realize the OEM A02 Honeywell filter is just a slightly upgraded FRAM right? The older A01 Filtech filter on the left is pretty good, but VERY hard to find these days. I've never seen one at a dealership. If you must go with OEM filters, I would buy S2000 PCX filters. They are the larger can and have a higher pressure bypass.

You guys should read the thread I linked above. Especially the OEM filter spec change from 15400-PLM-A01(Filtech/Toyo Roki) to 15400-PLM-A02 (Fram/Honeywell). Then come back and tell us if you still think OEM is the best way to go.

Also consider that over the past few years Honda/Acura have consolidated ALL of their oil filters for Cars/Light Trucks to the 15400-PLM-A02 EXCEPT for the S2000. The most obvious reason is cost.

Do you really think that they were "they were engineered for the specific car they're on" if they are used on everything from small 4-cyls to high output V6's in cars, trucks, mini-vans and SUV's?

That's not to say they are inadequate. But I wouldn't expect them to exceed minimum standards by too much.

There are some out there, but you have to be careful. Some are not OEM and are listed as an "R" part (as in PLM-A01R, for replacement, I think). Those are knock-offs of unknown quality - maybe OEM quality, maybe not.

I also think there are some private sellers that sell knock off as the real thing when it is not.

Finally there are many that list the PLM-A01, but if you read descriptions carefully (Ebay, etc.), it's actually the PLM-A02 with a "cross reference" or "interchange" part number.

All very sketchy if you ask me.

That's why I would rather pay $12.70 for a Royal Purple filter from Summit over anything else. It's literally the very best filter out there today. Syntethic glass-fiber medium instead of cellulose or coated cellulose. Higher flow and superior filtration. Can't ask for more than that.

I use Purolator One with Mobil 1 Extended Peformance oil for the first 5000 miles then Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter for the second 5000 miles. Had numerous oil analysis performed and this has given me the best results. 160000 miles and running!!!!

Royal Purple Filter: Amazon
Valvoline Synpower: Wally World

Best $35 dollar oil change ever.

OEM is just a plain cheap-o filter.

Interesting read on the Honda OEM filters. I got an AMSOIL filter when I picked up my Redline oil at a nearby shop.

Do you think running the Pureone for the entire 10k would give worse results? (if you have experimented in this manner) I'd like to know a little more about your test.

Inaccurate....aaah he is no one....just a very very informative guy whose 3G TL does 0-60 in less than 5 seconds with the bare minimum mods

in all seriousness, he is my GODfather...i reach out to him when i dont know what going on with my car (i bet more than 50% of Azine does that)....he knows a lot about the TL and you should check out his diet thread:

You should search "All Threads Started by Innaccurate". I don't think he's ever started one dud thread.

I used to run oem filters intel I did a little research and found out the oem filters are not much of an upgrade from the fram filters just like the picture that 94EG posted. Have been using the Royal Purple filters, there a little spendy but I think considerably better quality. The casing is alot thicker and more rigid and they use a synthetic wool material as opposed to the paper filters that Acura and most other filters are constructed of. Here's a youtube vid I found you can watch to see what I'm talking about

If you follow the stock interval this filter is overkill however if you can get it at a good price then why not. I just wouldn't spend more then 6 bucks on a filter following factory oil change intervals because there are millions of Honda's on the road using Fram Orange Can rebadged OEM filters and are being replaced every other oil change (this is Honda's interval). If the oem filters can handle 2 oil change intervals then any decent after market filter can.

It's not really about interval. The RP and Amsoil EAO filters offer things that no other filter offer.

Better filtration AND better flow.

Not affected by moisture where a regular cellulose filter swells and does not filter as well.

Better construction: wire mesh inforced media, silicone anti drainback valve, metal end caps, a better pressure relief valve, a thicker case, in RP's case, an o-ring instead of a gasket.

The big thing here is only 2 filters have the synthetic glass media. A purone filters very well but doesn't flow well. The glass media offers both.

I used to use the EAO filter but the ADBV seems to be better on the RP filter plus you can get it locally. If you're looking for a high performance filter, these two are the only choices. The others are lots of money while competing for a distant second place, these two actually get you a good and different product.
