iPhone 4s Siri with Acura bluetooth HandsFreeLink system
iPhone 4s Siri with Acura bluetooth HandsFreeLink system
Just got a new iPhone 4s, and the reason I got it, so I can use Siri in the car, but the problem is that Acura HandsFreeLink doesn't have a Bluetooth button. Did anybody figure it out?
Right now if I connected to HandsFreeLink and want to use Siri, the iphone switches to speaker phone, and loosing the whole point of HandsFreeLink.
Any advice?

I'm dumb with your question (of course I am and Android fanboi). Are you saying once paired, the phone will not transmit through the car's speaker system.
What model year is your car?
What model year is your car?
wait for apple to rebrand it as iBluetooth and then iAcura and then iTSX.
Honestly, I have no idea what your question really is, just seems like your phone goes to speakerphone mode as soon as it is bluetooth linked. If so then get a different phone or a different car.

no, if i get it right, his phone connects to bluetooth and that works fine, but he wants to utilize siri while driving, but there is no bluetooth button on the car, so he has to press it on the phone, and when he does that, it auto transfers to speakerphone on the iphone, which defeats the purpose of bluetooth. my only comment is, I WANT SIRI
I just picked up a 2011 TSX on Oct. 1 and a 4S on launch day (loving my TSX btw, traded in my BMW due to reliability issues, and dealership being rude to me.) You have to initiate siri on the phone, but it will connect over HFL. I don't have the tech package, and yes, it renders the package useless to me. If its not going through the speakers, try double tapping the home button and swiping all the way to the left, you'll see a volume slider with a square and an arrow next to it, tap that and select handsfree link, that is how your sound is routed. When you hold the home button the source will change to HFL and you will be able to communicate with siri via bluetooth. The phone treats the car as a headset in that sense. Let me know if anyone has any questions, I'm pretty well versed in car electronics, and extremely well versed in all apple products.

You could add a line, and flip flop the devices, then give split the bill with someone. I wouldn't feel too bad, while siri is useful, and the easter eggs are comical, it's not that big of a deal, If I didn't have a business account that got me annual upgrades which makes it possible for me to turn a profit every year by selling my old device on ebay or CL, I wouldn't have gotten it.
I haven't been able to import my phonebook from my 4s either. I also have a problem with it not auto-connecting. I previously had a iPhone 4 with zero problems. I am sure the issue is with the 4s having Bluetooth 4.0. '11 Tech Wagon.
I have the '11 TSX w/ Tech and the 4S. I got the phonebook to work. I need to try the Siri test noted above.
To get the phonebook to work I tried once and then it sat for 10 minutes and did nothing. So I went into the phone and double checked all of my settings and sort of forced a reconnect at the phone. I don't know if it actually did anything. When I pushed import phonebook on the car a second time it imported it right away.

Phonebook issue solved; Siri not...
For people having trouble importing their iPhone 4s phonebooks, I was having the same issue (I have a 2009 Tsx w/Nav). But someone in this forum (but not this same topic I don't believe) had said that they went into the "Import Cellular Phonebook" thing like you normally do, and right after that, go into Settings>General>Bluetooth and click the "HandsFreeLink" button where normally it will say "Connected". It will pause your Bluetooth for a second but you'll see that your Navi screen will go from saying "Importing Contacts" to "Loading Contacts". It still took about 3-4 minutes but finally it said "Import Successful. Imported 362 Contacts". Hopefully that'll work for everyone.
Paul said that going to the Volume screen after double clicking the home button with allow you to interact with Siri via the HFL speakers, but I tried that and it didn't work unfortunately. But Paul I do thank you for helping me discover that volume screen which I never knew about before!

Brew, were you connected to bluetooth? i don't have siri yet, but the icon he is talking about sounds like the same one for the ipod. when you are in ipod, next to the next song icon, that icon is there when i am connected to bluetooth or usb, and i can choose if i want it to use speaker, HFL, or dock connector to play music.

Is there a setting in the car maybe that isn't on correctly?

I bought my '09 w/ tech just a month ago. I haven't made much use of the voice control. I'm going to sell my nexus S and buy an iphone 4 - I want the artist / album stuff to display on the screen when I connect via usb.
So I guess I'll be able to mash the big button and say "play songs by U2" or whatever right? Will that work via usb? Or only on bluetooth? Do I already have that feature built in to the car's audio system?
seriously - this car is more techy than just about anything I own.
It can be done. google search is your answer. It's not available to the public just yet - give it a few weeks and it will be available. You will have to jailbreak your phone (you can always pay someone to do this if you are not comfortable with it)

summary of what needs to be done to import phone book:
activate bluetooth, go to sync contacts on your navi. on the phone go to bluetooth and click the little blue arrow next to handsfree link, and tell it to allow import of contacts. that should work
negative. 99% chance that it won't happen. siri is network based, its not just on your phone. there have already been people who jailbroke the 4 and got siri on it, but it doesn't work because the network denies access to it. apple would have to allow siri to work on the 4. hardware wise, the 4 and even 3GS had siri before. it was an app and worked just fine. apple literally blocked it from working anymore.

yea they literally hacked the server, extracted the code, and modified it. the people who have been able to do it all refuse to release it. publicly or privately because of all the legal issues. i mean sure, anythings possible. but highly unlikely, and by the time it does happen, apple will probably have a chip you can install in your head to control your rollerblades lmao
Have 2009TL with Nav. worked great w/ iPhone 3S. Just upgraded to 4S. Can't load contacts from 4S. Getting error messages. Hands-Free tech help did not help solve problem, although they suggested various things to try.
I have same issue and cant load contacts from iPhone 4s
I ran into the same problem. Fortunately, I still have my iPhone 3GS and simply re-uploaded my contacts from it to the system. (FYI: I have 2011 TSX Sports Wagon w/Tech Package.) I also have an iPad (original) and considered uploading from it. However, since the 3GS did the trick, it worked out just fine.
Apple has already announced an update in "coming weeks". Maybe this contact sync issue is on their radar and will get resolved. (I plan on selling my 3GS in the coming weeks, so I won't have that option in the future.)
As for getting Siri to work via Bluetooth, I have had no luck. However, given the other known limitations with iPhones and the Acura Tech Package, I don't expect this one will get resolved.

I have Siri working with my CU2 but the only problem I'm having is that when i Press the call button Siri will start for the first time then I will need to use the Siri button on the iPhone after that.

what are your issues with Siri using the HFL? Doesn't work at all? Mine works fine.
So those of you with the Iphone 4s - did you get the issues resolved? I'm not going to purchase one if it has too many problems.

I haven't figured out how to use Siri via Bluetooth on the Tech Package (2011). I also never had success with importing contacts, but I believe others have.

According to Autoblog, Siri will work in the car with bluetooth <--click
Just saw this and thought of the thread. Now somebody test it to see if it works on the TSX.

Kalex - It sounds like you've had success with your 2010 w/Tech. What do you do to get yours to work via HFL?
just wanna add a bit to this minus my trolling
i have a verizon iphone 4 and 2010 base TSX. i stream music through the bluetooth, and i can actually initiate voice control from my iphone(such as calling people, or say play a certain playlist, artist, or album). i press the home button on the iphone and it does everything over my HFL car speakers
