NAV update?

NAV update?
So everytime I check for a NAV update on http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT..._Acura_TL_2009
I see the release date gettn pushed back. Now they have gotten so lazy that it still says end of Jan 2010. Well now it's March. I even called the company and they seem to hav no idea when an update will be released. I'm working with two year old maps here. They are really starting to show their age nowadays. Any insight?

Just was at dealer; they have no idea either. 2009 owners really got screwed with this Navi system. I purchased November '08, navi info was more than a year old right off the lot. I like the car in general, but this is the worst part by far. I'm not a loyalist, so I doubt I will stick with Acura over this. This navi situation is unacceptable.

Anyone planning on getting this update? Looks like 185 plus 10 for shipping. Anywhere from 2 to 5 hours to install depending on how you do it. Is it worth it? I am leaning toward getting it since the maps in the 09's are probably almost 2 years old. What say you?

Would you look at that? Nice timing lol. Well I guess I'll play guinea pig and order it since I was the one to start the thread. I'll let you guys know if it's worth it (tho I bet I'll be regretting it lol)

Yeah should have it in a couple days. Hoping someone can take the update DVD apart and figure out how to remove the disclaimer screen. Hopefully will open the door to modifying the software.

I just called XM and renewed three radios for the $77 rate. They said to call 800-967-2346 before the year is up and they will renew for another year at the same rate. No fuss, no muss.

Just a heads up, I ordered the update and later got a phone call asking for my VIN number and nav device ID (under info button->other tab->device information). They take that and give you an activation ID that you have to enter into the car when you get the update disc.
I guess its an anti-piracy measure to keep people from copying, but kind of a pain to get all these numbers.

I performed the upgrade today - I cant tell any major difference in it yet... The upgrade takes 2 hours minimum (which i did on battery power - not recommended by acura)
If anyone finds anything it would interesting to find out...

I performerd the upgrade on my TL today as well. Afterwards, there's a new icon on the main map display in the lower left corner that looks like a picture of a disk to the left of a hard drive. I have no idea what it is, does anyone else? The icon persisted even after I ejected the disk and restarted the car.
I'll post back to the group what I found that's new if/as I discover it.

I'm actually pretty annoyed we have to pay $185 just for an updated navigation when it seems like it should be included. Oh well, I'm not one to be accused of being cheap when it comes to buying this beautiful car so, I suppose there is no use whining and just buy the update right! Still seems like a bad deal though .

Althought I'll give them a call tomorrow. Could you post me your link to Navteq Canada?
Also why 2 DVD if they name one for US & Canada? I also checked on the compatibility folder and it listed 2009 Acura TL...
Anyway I'll call and give you a report.

Got mine today. Had my wife work from home so I would not miss the fedex guy. Only glitch was that I was not given the activation code in the email or over the phone so I called the 800# that Eli above provided and the Acura guy said I was one of a dozen or so people who did not get the email or call to be given the code. You have to give them your vin and device ID to get the code. Thanks Eli for the info. Took about 2 hours and went smooth. Left the car in Acc. mode for about an hour then started it up and let it run for the last hour. After starting the car the screen went blank and then continued on from where it left off without any problem. Was a little worried about the code thing because I called a Navteq # first and they did not know what I was talking about and they had me call an Acura # and that guy did not know about it and then I called again a few minutes later and the Acura was able to help me out. Hope it is worth the $200.

I'm doing a fast update slowly, over several commutes, not leaving the car running unattended. What's interesting that isn't mentioned is while its updating, the parking guide lines on the backup camera view aren't drawn. I guess the nav computer is too occupied with updating to draw them.

Well it seems I ordered the US version which include Canada and frankly, I looked at the blue stuff and didn't think it would be important...

Don't see any icon, there is one displayed while its ripping a CD normally. Anyway, I do notice the performance is better since the update, not of the car but the nav system.
The draw rate is faster, it updates the map more times per second, also its more in sync with the car. It starts moving the map the instant the wheels start rolling, while before it was lagged a bit. It's especially noticeable if you're navigating a parking lot and spinning the map in circles. I also think the icons might be different, such as the address icon on the destination menu.

Yea, not only that, but just general functionality with the Nav system, I tried using my father-in-law's lexus nav, and it was horrible... couldn't even touch it while moving which completely blows...
The map thing i don't have too much a problem with, it's not like the roads change that much (even during the Big Dig it wasn't that bad). Not bad enough to pay $180 for an update.

Finally got my dvd, had to go to fedex and pick it up as I kept missing delivery. Installed the update with car running, took exactly 2 hours. So far I've noticed an updated gracenote as a few of my uploaded cd's info can now be found. I'm going to check the zagat database as I believe that should be updated. There are fewer unconfirmed routes as well and newer roads are listed. Nav system seems to be faster in general as well and routing is a bit better. Worth 180? prolly not, be neither was my TB spacer and I'm happy with that!
