XM radio

I just bought a use Acura MDX 2008 and it has tech.package.
I turn on the XM radio by accident and it came on got all the channel listen for a couple one hr.

My question to anyone out there is, am I going to get charge for it even though I didn't subscribe. My wife say I will get charge and I'm thinking how do they know it was me, just curious. I also think that the previously owner must subscribe to XM-radio and forgot to cancel.

Well, they know you are getting service...
BUT, if you are getting service it is already paid for. Meaning, someone probably paid for a full year on it. Eventually you will lose it and the XM will go dead. Enjoy it for now, then call and offer them 77 a year to renew like everyone else.

Good luck!

Rockstar143,
Thx. for the quick response, I'll renew it when the service stop.

My other question is does every car that has XM-radio need to activate before you can use or it already pre-activate on car like what I'm having right now.

Yes, you have to call up and give them your xm radio ID to activate it. It was most likely from the previous owner. If you bought it cpo from acura you should get 3 months free.

If you bought a Certified Pre Owned Acura, a 90 day trial of the XM is included. The pre paid subscription happens sometimes, XM seems to let people transfer their subscription from one radio to another but they don't seem to like to cancel services and give refunds.

Well, they like the new owner to get hooked on it and keep the service so they figure they might as well leave it!

I did not purchase from a pre-certified Acura dealer, I bought it from a Nissan dealer
SOLD AS IS, No warranty one owner fresh trade in. The car has no been to a complete
checkup due to a good price that I offer to Nissan.

I bought mine from a Ford dealer and the XM(just the radio not nav traffic) was active for nearly a year before I had to pay for it. I assume the prior owner payed for 1yr ahead of time and traded it after only using a bit of it. My gain, his loss. I just paid my first XM bill last month and have owned it for a year. They offered me with nav traffic and fees etc. for around a hundred bucks for a year. Good enough for me.

srojoe, dealer should re-enable trial subscription of xm when they certified the car for sale. call your dealer sales rep. you can also contact xm and tell them car was purchased and they will get your radio id, give you a xm account, and 'refresh' your radio.

DO NOT CALL XM!!! If you are receiving the channels you are not paying anything. XM just screwed up, as usual. I canceled a portable XM radio 2 years ago and I am still receiving full service. However, if you are honest and call XM they will cancel the service and probably try to get you to subscribe.
