Will different width tires front and back do any damage?

Hi everyone ... this is my first post in here.

I had a set of 20" rims off my 2011 SS camaro sitting in the garage, as it turns out they have the same hub size, offset and stud pattern as my wife's MDX.

They bolted on fine ... so I sent my wife to a local tirestore to have the TPMS swapped over.

The tire store were concerned that having different widths front to rear would effect the allwheeldrive system. The backs are 275/40/20 on 9" wide rims and the fronts 245/45/20 on 8" wide rims.

I checked a tire size calculator before fitting them to ensure that the circumference of the camaro wheels were the same; they are within .07" or 1.8mm (less than you'd get with tirewear).

The circumference difference between the MDX's original tires and the camaro's is 1.2"

The section width of the front camaro tires however is about 3/8" less than the MDX.

So here's my questions ... will the following do any damage:
1) different tire widths between front and back
2) larger circumference of 1.2" between the original MDX tires and the Camaro's (other than making the speedo out slightly)
3) smaller section width of 3/8" on front tires to the MDX

Below is a chart to comparetires.

The far left is the standard MDX wheels
The next is the camaro's rear wheels
Then the camaro's front wheels
Out of curiosity I threw in a 255/45/20 that will fit on both camaro rim sizes AND provides almost exactly the same section width and circumference to the MDX factory rims. If all else fails I could put 4 of these on and have everything OK.

I appreciate everyone's help in advance!

I've always heard that the same size and width tires should be used with awd. I wouldn't chance it on mine.

I was curious about this as well.. the bmw X5's have fatter tires in the back, and I think the x6 has it as well.. yet they don't seem to have any issues..

My wife has different width tires front and rear, but her Caddy SRX doesnt have AWD. I would research this some more.

Just read it again...the 275/40/20 and 245/45/20 are almost the same diameter. The circumfrence is nearly identical all around. You should be fine to go ahead with these. Even factory tires, when worn, would have more of a variation than these camaro specs.

DO IT!

Think I will put them back on again ... then when the tires need replacing go with the 255/45/20's all round.

BTW ... Here's a pic

If i ever get MDX this is exactly the 5-spoke look i'd go for. Such a simple design and 5/6 spoke rims looks good on a lot of vehicles.

To OP,
its not only AWD but SHAWD.
SHAWD works on every turn. AWD works only a small amount compared.
Therefore I would not mess with different sizes on front and back.
Should be OK on other cars and trucks.

Nice looking wheels! i would not worry about 1/16" diff. in O.D between the front and rear. The radius difference of 3/16-in. from stock will slightly change the speedo and odo readings, and you probably won't be able to rotate the tires from front to back for longer wear. If you can put the 255/45/20 all around front and back that would certainly be the best. As good as that looks it would be worth it in my opinion.
