What sets the MDX apart from competition?

MDX is one of the best selling luxury SUV. What sets it apart from its competition? It lacks many features found in competitor cars. For me, it was the price. What are some features that you guys really like about the MDX? What are some of the reasons why you chose this over the competition?

Style- By far the best looking SUV I have seen on the road.
SH-AWD- Can't be that
Most important of all......Reliability, it will last a long time if properly taken care of and it looks great.

^^what he said.

SHAWD, styling, reliability.

best bang for your buck in terms of price. sure some of the other cars out there have some of the fancy gadgets, but are they really deal breakers or have people become so reliant on the "conveniences" of technology?

+2 ^^^^^what they said! Aggressive and handsome styling.

I also like the fact that it has a 3rd row seat, but still doesn't look as long as a bus like many other makes. We also tested and liked the Buick Enclave, except for the extra length. The MDX fits in the garage so much better, 191.6-in. vs 201.8-in. OA Length. May not sound like much difference, but the MDX in my view is proportioned overall much better.

I agree, I now have 15,500 mile with not one problem. Love it every time I drive it.

Same here, I know SHAWD from my RL and that is a major reason we got the MDX. Plus it is the most value oriented purchase of the luxury SUV's out there. 3rd row also helps though we do not use it much. Don't like the city MPGs but you cannot have everything I guess. Very sure and steady in the snow.

Wish we had proper keyless entry and push button start though.

the only thing my MDX doesn't have that others do is push start. outside of that its an excellent car from looks to tech. I have the advance and it has the blind spot, sport suspension, RES, ventilated seats, and crash mitigation. Not sure what other gadgets you could want. My sisters X5 has like side mirrors that fold in automatically but thats just german mambo jumbo if you ask me. She also has a butt load of electrical issues with her car all the time. I don't have any problems other then some dumb ass at the mall opening their door and putting a ding in me. I'm getting that fixed real soon.

What everyone else has said. I had Family over for two weeks this summer and the MDX was the go to vehicle, if it was not for the third row trips to Orlando and Key West we would have taken TWO cars ! Love my MDX

I traded up from a 2006 TSX, and I just haven't found any feature that's really wow yet. My 6 years old TSX Tech has almost the same features as this higher model MDX Tech. The only real difference is the SH-AWD, a major reason why I bought the MDX. In hindsight, I regret not getting the Advanced with RES, but I couldn't justify the price increase. The features I really wish the MDX Tech have are:

push-start
rain-sensing wipers (i heard last gen had this...weird)
auto-leveling headlights (i think advance has this?)
apps (pandora, yelp, etc in navi)
better backup camera with 'birdseye' view (
)
front bumper sensor

Do I love my MDX? Absolutely. That's just something about the car that feels right. I am just trying to pinpoint what that is. It's probably a combination of SH-AWD, styling, and value.

The Advance Model sets the MDX apart form Tech model as much as Tech model sets it apart from Base.
When I compared my Advance to the deluxe versions of BMW Audi etc the standouts were handling and cost of owernship.

Having gone from an 09 base to a 12 Tech, the 2G MDX have been the best cars we've ever owned. The only feature I really wish it had is keyless entry and push button start a la 2G RDX.

Admittedly Ive not tried the Advance model but on paper it just seemed like overkill for what's effectively a family trip car in our case.

Anyway, I hope that Honda does not screw up a winning formula such as the MDX!

The Nav System on Acura is the best. I've tried the BMW, Buick, MB & a few others and all of them are so hard to use. I also like the way Acura prices cars without millions of option packages like Toyota & Lexus. Reliability!!!

I agree with Wayne. NAV is great in Acura cars. The nav on My sisters Beemer has 3d view but that's about the only thing I like about it. It's not that great to use. No complaints. And every guy should automatically know how to get to a home depot. That was Malarchy.

honda/acura navi's are intuitive in nature which makes them (for the most part) user friendly. i've seen a few of the others (like others of you have) and they are not quite as easy to interact with. the one thing about honda/acura...ergonomics and the intutive nature of how to use things within the vehicle everything is thoughtfully layed out with a purpose.

i too like the simplicity of the pkgs of honda/acura offers with their vehicles. toyota/lexus are not the only ones guilty of the numerous pkg options available (MB, infiniti, BMW all do the same thing). here's the base pkg, but if you want this...that'll be another 10k.

I can't help but wonder if all the smart phones available with Nav apps will relegate the fixed, in-dash units either obsolete or, at best, just a redundant expensive option. I understand that sales of the portable ones like Magellan and TomTom are being hard hit by the free phone apps.

I've owned from new an 03, 05 and now the 07 MDX sport ent. Its the BEST out there (07+++ generation)...style, handling, best bang for the bucks and reliability to name a few.... I drove it from California to Louisiana and back (7,800 miles round trip). Most comfortable vehicle we've owned....22 miles to the gallon loaded and cruising at 80 mph....can't beat that. 300 ponies is plenty and the sh-awd with the ADS suspension is awesome....nuff said...

Unfortunately, my only OEM Navi experience has been with my old 07 AV6 and now my 12 MDX Tech. (And I wish the MDX had the AV6's mpg meter.) But, I guess I'll find out how others compare when I pick up either a G35C or E46 M3 sometime next year.

That said, here's an interesting article from Edmunds: link

I will always prefer an in-dash navi that is fully integrated into the vehicle.
