Vacuum cap or hose missing... need help

It appears that I am missing a vacuum cap or hose on my 2003 MDX. See pic below. What does this do and am I missing a hose or cap? If it's a hose, I cannot find it anywhere. Any help is appreciated.

Don't know, but that engine bay look like it's had a rough life!

Will try to remember to check on mine tomorrow.

Ok, I checked mine today, and it's the same like yours. That's how they all are, I guess.

Maybe it's for testing purposes, when the truck is in for servicing?

Never had a problem.

It is the breather tube box for the front transfer assembly. That line is supposed to be open for venting. Starting in 2003 the front transfer case was no longer oiled by the transmission. The transfer case was sealed and lubricated by gear oil, this is why it needs a vent that is separate from the transmission. In 01 and 02 the transfer is vented through the trans.
