Trailer Hitch

Trailer Hitch
I recently purchased a used 2006 MDX that didn't have a factory installed trailer hitch. Is there any advantage to getting the dealer to install an OEM hitch? Is there any disadvantage to using an after-market hitch?

My experience is Lexus related. I added a trailer hitch and harness to 2004 RX, did it through UHaul. Hitch is terrific, installation was a nightmare. Ended up getting it redone at UHaul twice and it still shorted out at least once on every trip. One day when car was in for regular service Lexus called me and said install of hitch wiring was going to cause electrical issue... I already knew it was bad so had Lexus fix it. All in all... I overpaid because I tried to go cheap. Just bought a new 2014 MDX and a key accessory for me was an Acura installed hitch and harness. Not cheap but I am not expecting issues either, OK after harness recall is fixed :-).
IMO - If you only want a hitch, after market is fine. If you want wiring... find a pro or someone who knows the MDX.

get an OEM wiring harness and an aftermarket hitch.
bought a draw tite hitch from uhaul, DIYd the install. no issues. dealer wanted almost $800 for OEM with install. i laughed at them. i know the wiring harness for the 2G is plug in play for the aftermarket harness. i don't tow anything. i only have the hitch for a hitch rack for bikes.
