Hello,
I am new to this part of Acurazine, but i come here to ask about the milage. I currently have a 2012 TL tech but my GF is expecting and she has a big family so I see myself switching cars.
I am in between the SH-AWD 2012 TL Advanced and an MDX Tech 2011.
I love the TL but its not that big or that comfy for a baby seat and the like. On the other hand the MDX is ideal for those situations. My biggest problem is the MPG's of the MDX compared to the TL.
I live in NY where its crazy cold or super hot, so i need something that will be helpful in both scenarios.
How much worse is the MDX on gas compared to the TL? How much do you pay for gas at the pump when you fill up?
Is the MDX longer than the TL?
Help me out!

I will be the one doing all the driving and her family might visit us more often seeing that the baby is here.
I can't believe that the advanced option is past the stupid DVD system as far as price is concerned.

If you are going to be the sole driver, the MDX might not be your piece of cake coming from a sports sedan. Oh, your TL is over 2" longer than the MDX. Of course, the MDX is wider and taller. Good luck.
Compared to the TL, the MDX has a serious drinking problem. It will consume about 50% more fuel. Some folks do slightly better, some folks do slightly worse - but that is about the ratio. The 2013 MDX is slated for design changes, one of them is improved fuel economy.

currently owning both....the MDX around town drinks quite a bit more the larger tank and the lower MPGs makes the gas pump price a bit of a trauma compared to the TL.
the MDX...i get about 16 MPG around town, up to 23-24 MPGs strictly on hwy.
the TL (granted i have a 3G and i have a roof rack)...i get about 19 around town, and up to 25-26 mpgs hwy without bikes, add bikes...drops to 22-23 (strictly hwy). most guys are getting hi 20's even low 30 mpgs on their TLs for hwy only.
like someone has mentioned before, the TL is longer by a little, but the MDX is wider and taller.
the rides will be completely different (sports sedan vs SUV). the MDX provides 3rd row seating and ample cargo space compared to the TL. long trips will be comfy and hauling people (adults) is probably going to be a bit easier. either car should be fine for a car seat and hauling a kid. will you be the primary driver? and will you be the one hauling the baby most of the time? if you plan on hauling adults, the Odyssey is not a bad choice, but if its only occasional...i'd pick the MDX. so...assess your needs, who's driving, who's hauling, and what you really want. don't expect a sports sedan ride in the MDX though it wants to drive that way even though you sit up higher.
when i drive my MDX i appreciate my TL a lot more. the MDX has its place in my lifestyle and for my other needs that the TL doesn't provide, while the TL is my first love and is the "fun" car now (essentially its my version of a kid). ultimately, its a decision between you and the GF and what you guys need.

I will be the main driver of the MDX. We will go out durring the weekends but it will mostly it will be used as a daily driver.
I have looked at the Audi Q5 but the MDX beats in size and bang for the buck.
I know that i can put a baby back there but what about the stroller in those days that we go to BJ's?
I am thinking MDX, durring the week TL SH-AWD. I live in NY so we get a lot of snow here during those cold winter months. The MDX will be fun then.

I don't need it to be longer just more fuel efficient. The new 2012 came out today and it doesn't show any improvement on that end. It doesn't even have a smart key. No push button start. damn for 44K plus they should have made changes to that.

2013 and 2014 will be big release years for acura since they will be debuting redesigns for the RDX, MDX, TL, TSX, RL? and maybe even releasing a new coupe. however, don't expect them to go bigger with engines and HP...that whole green thing and govt fuel efficiency standards limit car makers these days (or does that force them to be more innovative?).
