are there really no good reverse camera options available?
are there really no good reverse camera options available?
I have searched and searched and have been unable to find a decent solution to improve the visibility of the reverse camera?
Does anyone have any options other than cleaning and adding brighter lights?
Is there an actual camera replacement upgrade available that I can't find?
Thanks

I heard that too but even it is not all that great compared to cars with a fraction of an MDX
At night, go to a well lit parking lot and see if your display is clearer, when in reverse.
It's probably not the camera that's messed up.
1. do you know how to adjust your display's contrast, so that your camera seems clearer?
2. is there enough lighting at night, for the camera to provide a clear picture?

2) when I back up into our garage at night, you can't see a damn thing until I get into the garage where it is well lit. Which makes me believe the unit has very poor capabilities at night. I did a bunch of searches and get similar responses from others. Lots of complaints about the reverse camera.
Am I mistaken?
That was my problem, too...not enough light behind the mdx.
I mounted 2 of these marine boat lights to my hitch:
12v led lights

I was in a nicely lit parking lot yesterday and noted how great reverse visibility was at night. So yeah, I agree, I need to create more light behind me. A camera with improved night visibility would also work, but I guess those do not exist that can be retrofitted into our MDX.

And? What was your result?

I have crisp colors at night, because I have sooooo much back up lighting.
I'd post a photo of my display but Photobucket hijacked my photos and wants ransom. Some day I'll trust a photo service again, but I have no idea where to go.
My lighting is as bright a day, for 60 feet.

Pics, I use Imgur.com since photobucket hijacked my pictures as well.
Do you think you can pop the rear plastic panel off of the hatch?
You have to start with one of the small plastic pieces that touch the edge of the glass.
Once it's off and you're standing under the hatch, facing the steering wheel look at the hatch for an exposed piece of tape (mine was green) and you can follow it to the dim OEM back up bulb.
There is only one black rubber boot and you need to get a single 18 awg speaker wire thru the boot and down the driver's side wall to the rear fuse panel. Then under the storage tray.
Remove the storage tray and run the single wire under the tray, out the back "plastic plug" and towards your trailer hitch. I pulled the lplastic plug out and drilled a hole in it and then I pushed the single wire thru.
The led light has 2 wires. One connects to the single wire and the other screws to a shinny bolt (Ground). I back fed this 2nd wire to the storage tray area. (There's a shiny gnd screw there).
Back to the OEM back up bulb area...peel (green) the tape off and twist the single wire on to the exposed OEM wire. Then tape it back.
I was able us use large stainless steel hose clamps to attach my 2 ea LED marine light to my hitch.
Test it out before you snap the rear hatch cover back on.

there's a thread on odyssey club that shows how you can add an aftermarket camera to the OEM drive. I'm using that info to try and hook up an aftermarket camera or fix the factory camera. The lens is clouded and producing a pretty bad image even in daylight.
