2012 MDX Advance Package, 43,000 miles. Thump or clunk over bumps sounds like driver's side front shock. Any other possibilities? I was reading about 1st Gen coil/spring collision. Don't know if applicable to 2nd Gen.

When I was in for oil change last fall, dealer said rear shock was leaking. I have not confirmed this. Looking online MSRP at estore.honda.com for parts is:

Front mag shock $847 each; or $255 for base shock
Front mag shock assembly $1465 each; no price listed for base shock

Rear mag damper assembly $517 each (dealer wanted $1650 to install two rears); or $164 for base damper assembly

For a $2000 difference for 4, I could probably live without the magnetic units. Anybody use Firestone for shocks? I have lifetime wheel alignment there.

 

I used the base shock assemblies as I didn't want to pay the $2500 for the Electronic dampers that'd fail again. The clunk is probably a bad or broken sway bar end link and or bushing for sway bar.

 

I had the same clunk/thump on my 11 MDX Adv at around 35,000 miles. I had a front endlink boot cover that was ripped and replaced. The cluck/thump went away; but, came back again around 40,000 miles and it was the front magnetic dampers that needed to be replaced (under the 4/50k basic). My rears finally went out and started leaking when I went in for my 105,000 miles timing belt service (replaced under AcuraCare 5/120k I purchased in 2014). I now have +146,000 on my 11 MDX and so far so good with the fronts with +100,000 miles and rears with +40,000 miles on them.
