Shift Delay

Shift Delay
Hi all,
When I leave my 2011 MDX -- 6k miles in the driveway (slight hill) for some time (over few hours), and I shift from park to drive or reverse, there is a slight delay before the car starts moving. The RPMS increase, I hear something click, then finally the car moves (probably 1-2 second delay). I really hope that it's not a tranny issue. Can someone please chime in. I plan to take the car to the dealership, but wanted some feedback on what the potential problem may be.
Thanks.

the delay could be the transmission components slowly engaging. Try pressing the gas pedal and see if the RPM's go really high 3K+ RPM's and then the transmission engages. If yes that could be a bigger issue.
If not, then a slight delay is okay within certain operating conditions. I'm not sure of the leeway afforded in the new 6spd cars so I can't comment exactly on how long is excessive.

When parking your MDX how do you park??
Do you come to a complete stop with foot resting on brake - set e-brake, then shift to park, then release brake pedal.
To shift from P to R rest foot on brake, releasing parking brake -- then shift transmission.
This way you're relaying on the brakes to hold the vehicle rather then the transmission.

I noticed this on my 2011 also last week. It only happens in reverse and it doesn't happen everytime. I've been driving, parking and reversing the same way on every cay I've had since the 80's. This delay was pronounced and I had to press the gas to get it moving in reverse. Might be a tranny issue. I'll monitor it for additional occurences.
