SH-AWD Longevity

I'm considering the purchase of a 2007 MDX with 50k miles from Carmax. They've offered the extended warranty and it makes me wonder about the longevity of the mechanicals of the SH-AWD system and whether or not they'd cover that.

Any opinions on the longevity or the Carmax MaxCare warranty? I know most aftermarket warranties are fairly worthless but Carmax seems like a decent enough company.

ask to read the exclusions list from Carmax. That will tell you if the AWD mechanism is covered.

Never bought a non-OEM extended warranty. Been happy with Acuracare

All companies {Auto, Insurance, Electronics, Oil, etc, etc} make themself appear decent until you make claims.
Ones who market it most are ones with biggest bite.
Get the point ??

Check the repair records of the '07 MDX and SHAWD from various sources - you will find above average to excellent.

I have only purchased two extended warranties. The first was for our '03 GMC AWD Safari minivan through Warranty Direct. The second is my '07 TL type S through Acura. As you all might expect no claims on the TL. On the Safari they have replaced idler arms, HVAC module, fan blower motor and a few other items. I bought the best coverage" w/ $200 deductable. I'd say they are legit, they wanted me to sign up for extended, extended coverage...crazy expensive so I turned it down as well I'm selling the Safari. I would trust Warranty Direct but you have to make sure what coverage you are buying. I think I broke even.

The SH-AWD system is probably the least of your problems, it is very reliable.
