Rough downshift at 40 Mph

09 MDX with 7500 miles on it. Is it normal for the car to downshift when the car is slowing down to the point where you can feel it downshifting? Right at about 40mph I feel the car jerk. The owner's manual says the car will downshift to help slow the car down, but I swear my head whips forward sometimes when it downshifts. Anyone else experience this? Is it normal to feel the car downshift when applying the brake or slowing down? Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

My 2010 does this and Acura doesn't believe anything is wrong.

It's getting progressively worse and does it at different speeds now. What I noticed for a while was that third gear seemed to be the culprit of it occurring.

dont recall if the 09 was the introduction of the 6spd transisson, but i do kn ow acouple of 10's have faulty valve bodies. dont worry this doesnt mean a new tranny is in store.these valve bodies are servicable.

Our 2006 has always done this...I don't think I'd describe our experience as a "jerk", but I'd definitely say there's an aggressive downshift around 40mph and lower. We live in the hills so our awareness is that much more elevated as we descend down the hill.

I would guess that a 5-speed auto is more prevelant to doing this as there are less gears to smooth your descent.

There is a recall where the car experiences shuddering around the 40-45 mph speeds. Just prior to the downshift, I have noticed the RPM meter fluctuates, part of which causes the vibration. Not sure if you are having the same issues but would be worth while checking out the recall.
I will post the details of the recall as soon as i find it.

nothing of the sort on my MDX and I coast quite a bit when slowing to red lights. Maybe have the dealer reset the car and see if it helps.

I have an 08 and I really feel it when I'm going downhill and let off the gas. It downshifts and it is very noticable. Hopefully it is something normal because I only have a few miles worth of warranty left.

Can someone from Acura please chime in? Thanks.

My 07 has the same problem from 3rd to second gear. It even has rough upshifts till 4th gear. I'm going to try and replace the pressure sensors for the 3rd and 2nd gear and see if that helps.
