No dome lights when door is opened

Hi all,

So I got a new to me 2007 MDX with Tech and Entertainment and roof rack, running boards, tow hitch, backup sensors; in black. While looking at the car and pushing buttons, playing with things and the kids and wife running in and out and pushing buttons, I failed to notice one odd problem...

When the doors are opened, there is no dome lights. The front switch is in the middle, door position, as is the very back one. All of the lights work individually when you push them or when you move the front switch to the On position. When you open the doors, the puddle lights come on as well.

I've tried to check for blown fuses for interior lighting in the 4 fuse boxes, but don't see anything. Everything else seems to work fine..

Thoughts?

Thanks,
- Jan

On my 11 MDX, the front passengers overhead light by the moon roof switch has 3 settings Off, Door Activated, and On. Could that switch be on the Off position? That would activate the overhead dome lights when the door are open or when you use the remote to open the X. Not sure if the 07-09 have this same feature?

Thank you for reply. The http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-Acura-MDX-OVERHEAD-CENTER-CONSOLE-DOME-LIGHT-STORAGE-CENTER-W-HOME-LINK-/111539847587?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19f84b01a3&vxp=mtr seems to be different than the http://www.ebay.com/itm/2010-2011-2012-ACURA-MDX-Roof-Dome-map-lamp-light-interior-top-36600-TK4-A11ZF-/331352046465?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d261efb81&vxp=mtr though. And I keep playing with that switch, hoping it will magically start to work. But if it was the switch, wouldn't that only affect the front ones? The middle and back ones have similar switches..

I've been trying to search forums on this topic, and it seems that there's some sort of a dimmer control or multiplexer that may have something to do with this stuff as well. I've been also hoping there's some setting in the computer that's turned off, but so far no luck on that as well.

And the plot thickens..

Had it at the dealer to do the Timing belt stuff and whatnot, and had them also look into the Dome light issue. At first, they found a blown relay in the driver side fuse box and replaced that. That seemed to fix the issue at first, and apparently it worked fine for a couple of hours. When I went to pick up the car though, they said that it stopped working again.

To make matters worse, now there's no dome lights even when you push the buttons, and the little blue lights are out too. Had them re-check the relay and the fuses, but apparently those are all fine. They suspect some sort of a wiring problem and want the car for a whole day to dig into it. The soonest however they could get me in is two weeks from now as "it's not a safety issue".

Now I don't entirely trust that they checked all the right fuses and relays, and will recheck them all with a multi-meter. Beyond that though, anything else to look for?

Anyone have a copy of the wiring diagram for the dome lights? I understand that the pod should get a steady 12v, and has a controlled ground for both the "on" switch for direct ground, and ground via a dimmer module for the door lights.. At this point I'm guessing it lost the 12v which sounds like a fuse or a relay to me..

Anyone have any other thoughts on this?

I'd replace all the bulbs and the relay again... I've seen the smallest things screw with electrical systems... like light bulbs.

Just to close the loop, the car was at the dealers for a couple days here, and they fixed it. It ended up being the Fuse Box that contains the multiplexer(?) that was bad. Luckily, and I have to commend Dick Hannah Acura of Portland here for awesome customer service, everything was covered for me as part of the purchase of the vehicle from them.

If anyone is interested, I do have the part number somewhere as well.

I updated my OEM inside bulbs to more splendid LEDs on my 11 MDX Adv; in any case, disregarded the vault lights as a result of that plan. Possibly you can do a blue focal point channel to put over the Drove?
