MDX in Mexico

I live in Mexico, and I want to buy an MDX.

I'm worried about getting service and parts though. The city I live in has a Honda dealer, but no Acura dealer.

I can get parts from Mexico City where they have Acura dealers, but, its several hours away by car.

So, my main question is: how many mechanical repair parts does the MDX share with Honda? (Ordering from the US is prohibitive because of the customs charges for goods entering the country)

Second question is - how much mechanical repair will the car likely need before it gets to 100,000 miles - apart from normal maintenance and brakes, shocks, and regular stuff like that?

THANKS

If I'm not mistaken the MDX and the Honda Pilot are the same platform. What seems ideal to me is to drive to Mexico City where there's and Acura dealer OR order off of your local Acura website if you can.

Most people whol live too far from an Acura dealer, do get their Acuras serviced at their local Honda dealer. Many of the vehicles (if not all) share the same motors betweent the 2 brands.

I get my TSX serviced at my local Honda dealer. They can do common items like fuilds, and even timing chain replacements. But I'm not sure if service at a Honda dealer will be honored by Acura's warranty. You may just call the Honda dealer and ask them. My car is out of warranty so it doesn't matter to me. Honda service is more cost effective than Acrua. And Honda has never scratched the $#@! out of my paint like Acura has done.

Honda will service it, no problem, you have parts available from el DF, so, I'd say go for it. Warranty service would be a bit troublesome though, and nobody knows really how much will a car break before 100K miles, particularly one loaded with so much tech as the MDX is.

Thank you everyone.
Maybe I should break down and get a damn Pilot. But, remember when Cadillacs and Lincolns and Imperials were the standard to which automakers strived to design their cars? And then along came the Honda Civic, and all of a sudden that became the standard of the world . . . and put automotive technology and styling and safety back about 30 years . . . so I reaaaalllllyyyyy donīt want a Honda.
I have a Pathfinder now, but its rusting and I need to get rid of it, and the newer Pathfinders have lousy reputations for repairs. Grrrrrrr
Thanks again all. You were awesome in getting me exactly what I needed to know.

The world is probably a better place because those cars are no longer the "Standard" of the world, and by the world you definitely don't mean Europe, Asia, Africa, or any other place different than this continent.

There is no shame in owning a Pilot, when you look at Acura you are looking at a Honda product after all.
