Hi, I'm a new owner of a 2012 MDX.
i didn't a search and didn't find at first glance, but is it bad to open & close the tailgate manually by hand?

no. i do it all the time, except i close it gently rather than letting slam down.

The tailgate works like the BMW auto close doors. Push it down gently until it clicks and the the motor does the rest. When opening by hand, press and release the button before pulling rather than press and hold while pulling.
