Lower Ball Joint?

Hello Folks...

Doing regular check up on the car I noticed my Driver side LBJ is leaking... Now... Am I nuts? or I am looking at a +400dll bill here to replace the entire Lower A-Arm???? There isn't a replacement LBJ for our 2G MDX???

Why not just buy a new boot for $3 and pack it full of new grease? If it's not making noise it makes no sense to replace it. If it's making noise and looks likes it's failing, I'd suggest the MAS brand arms from rockauto as they come complete with the balljoints, new compliance bushings and the other 2 bushings too.

I dunno if I can just replace the boot and It also looked like the boot has been torn for quite a while now so perhaps damage by contamination has occurred?
In any case I am baffled that the BJ unit cannot be replaced on its own... Seems a shame waste to replace a perfectly good working A-ARM just for the Ball Joint.

I was looking at Rock Auto offerings and that MAS Brand came up but I haven't ever use it, Do you have first hand experience with them? I dunno what brands are good for an Aftermarket fully Forged Aluminum A-arm... OEM is asking between 380 and 430dlls.

It is replaceable as it's sold as a separate part, just need to take it apart to take the boot off the top. You can try to remove the boot and inspect the joint after cleaning it and see if there is significant damage. If there isn't, you should be able to get away with new grease and a new boot.

As far as a new arm, few folks on MDX'ers have liked them compared to the mediocre offerings from doorman. OEM is much to expensive, I can buy nearly 3 aftermarkets for the price of 1 OEM unit. In the case of the MAS, 2 of them for the same price as 1 OEM one.

Plus at the mileage you have to change the compliance bushing, it makes sense to replace the whole arm with the ball-joint so all the components for that area are new. Add new tie rod ends and it'll be almost new!

I hit 90K just today but in any case I think that part is the original so its 9yr old... Perhaps with my Off Road adventures finally broke it.
