Looking for MDX
Looking for MDX
Hello everyone, kinda jumping over from the 3g TL forums for some advice from any MDX owners. With the amount of success that I've had and no issues from my TL, I been raving to my family to look at getting into acura. Well my sister has decided to look into an MDX and is currently looking at the 07-08 MDX. What are the issues from this generation that I need to keep an eye out for so that she doesnt get it and it goes to shit early on. (like the 3g TL have crappy transmissions early on)
Thanks!
Thanks!
No issues. The Honda 5-speed transmission issues have all been solved. The only issue I had was 1 of my adaptive shocks crapped out on me at around 40k miles and I had to replace it. Usually costs anywhere from 700-1k to fix. I would avoid getting one with ADS shocks. Besides that...no significant probs
You can include the 09 in that gen as well. Only thing I'll mention is that transmission coolers were not included, so if the previous owner installed a tow hitch, I would also check that they installed a trans cooler.
One downside with the MDX is city mpgs. When I have a good mix of 40% city and about 60% hwy, I can average 17-19 combined mpgs. Straight city driving usually gets me around 14-15 mpg. I can make up for it on the hwy with 20-22 mpg at 70-80 mph. If this is going to be just a city stop/go traffic or hit a stop light every block commuter car, get ready for mid to upper teens combined mpgs.
The MDX is a wide vehicle. Great for interior space, bad for parking spaces. My wife really has to pick the right spot to park to stay away from door dings from other drivers. Having the back-up camera helps and we also have the back-up sensors on our MDX. I wish the side mirrors were automatic. I took a little time to get use to the tall head rest in the second row blocking visibility a little (not a deal breaker).
I went with the +2010 models because I like the body style a little better and the extra 1 mpg better with 6AT wouldn't hurt with the +15,000 miles I put per year.

no major issues...the only big tix item could be the torque convertor. however the warranty was extended on it (8yrs/100k mi).
the sport (07-09) or advance models (10-13) that have the adaptive suspension as someone else mentioned...is a big tix item if one of them goes bad.
i swear mine was a bad seed with all the annoying issues i've had on my MDX. i know it's not the norm. my TL only had a couple of things. mechanically speaking....the MDX is solid. it's all the other crap that can potentially break.
