Looking to buy an MDX 07-09, these early transmission failure stories got me worried

I've been doing a lot of research on the 2007-2009 MDXs. The one's in our price range have anywhere between 50k - 80k miles.

I am scowering the internet and it seems that one of the most reported problems is out right transmission failure, or the torque converter failing and possible wrecking the transmission.

How common is this and should I avoid these MDXs?

I know the earlier MDXs were very prone to it (02 and 03) but I'm finding a fair amount of people complaining about their newer ones too.

Thoughts?

The styling of the MDX is subjective with folks and they are divided between the 07-09 or +10 models years. If you can afford a 09 MDX, you can also find a 10 MDX for the same price or a few bucks more (depends on mileage). I've heard of less problems with the newer 6AT and they made some engine mods to improve longevity. I think there are more complaints about he active shocks crapping out on the 07-09 sport models compared to the 5AT issues (both are expensive to repair). I would check out the 09-10 base/tech models and see it one fits you needs better.

I am not sure about the stories of the transmissions on G1 vehicles vs G2. But I have heard the overall quality of the G2 dropped a bit from G1. If that's true...I would only buy a pre-owned of either generation with a extended warranty plan. That way...you should be covered. You might be able to afford the warranty on an older car?
Its worth looking into, and making sure you know what the warranty covers.
