locking wheel lugs

Just traded in my 2004 mdx for a 2013 version.

The older car had Acura locking lug nuts which I took off before trading it in. I would like to know if I can use these lugs on the new car. I asked the dealer and they said I needed to buy a new set, as the thread dimensions where not the same on the '04 vs '13.

Not sure if this was a ruse to get me to buy some new lugs or the truth.

Before I try the old lugs and risk ruining the thread on the new wheels appreciate any advice people can give.

Thanks

Rob

Try the MDX forum for model specific advice.

As far as the threads go, you should be able to hand tighten a lug nut all the way down an empty stud. If you can't, then they were right.

The thing to be more concerned about in my mind is the seating. Some lugs have spherical seating. Others have flat seating. The difference here is what the wheel needs, not the stud.

Good luck, and go ask the MDX guys.

Welcome to the forums. I moved your thread to the MDX Forum.

Your dealer is correct. Your old MDX uses 12X150 lug nuts and the new one uses 14X150, so you will have to buy new locking lug nuts.

he is asking about the wheel locks, not about wheels. 5x114 and 5x120 got nothing to do threads, it is dims between wheel studs.

I'm almost certain that the threading on lugs(on Japanese cars) are universal. Which is metric. American might be SAE.

I'm inclined to agree with you in your suggestion that the OP should be more concerned with the seating of the lug nuts, on the rim. Might either be domed or flat. Hondas are usually domed.

My bad. I meant to put the stud and nut sizes, 12X150 which are used on 1G MDX, and 14X150 which are used on 2G MDX, and also 4G TL, 2G RL, AND ZDX, which are the size of the studs, not 5X114 and 5X120, which is indeed the bolt circle. This should make it clearer why the wheel locks won't work.

I have corrected my post and apologize for the confusion caused.

Thanks for the clarification Ron A. I knew about the bolt pattern already; saved me sometime going to look up the specs on the studs. Learned something new.

For whatever it is worth, I can tell you the lugs from a 2005 Pilot do not fit on a 2013 MDX.

Indeed,you are correct sir!

M12X1.50 bolt for those with 5X114.3 bolt pattern. The slightly thicker M14X1.50 for 5X120.
