Help!! 2014 or 2013 MDX?
I'm in the same boat, but I'm also considering the 2014 RDX.
The 2014 MDX prices will not be very negotiable for some time. The prices for the 2013 will be very attractive when the 2014 MDX is released for sale.

considering we dont' know much about the interior details, i see the difficulty in the dilemma of choosing.
expect to pay full price for the 2014 when it is released later this year.
it all comes down to what you want out of the car (look, performance, tech goodies, budget, etc).
some things to keep in mind:
- 2014 MDX, being first year model, will probably have kinks while 2013 MDX is pretty solid
- 2014 MDX will cost alot more but you get new technology, new styling, and more interior room
If you are looking to own the car for a LONG time and you can settle for older technology, i would go for 2013 MDX. If you are the type to flip cars after a few years to get the latest and greatest, i would go for 2014 MDX.
Personally, I never buy a car before its MMC. It sucks to buy a brand new first year model and pay the premium for it, and then Acura adds on a bunch of goodies during MMC. I always try to buy at MMC or later. But I tend to keep my cars 5+ years. So by the time 5 years is up, the new model has reached MMC.

Well agreeing reading some post and research. I think the 2013 will be a better choice for me, don't want to pay too much money for a sub. So when do u guys think will be a good time to get a great deal on the MDX. Thx
We went to the Chicago Auto Show today to look at the 2014 and 2013 MDXs. The 2014 looks okay but not a huge change in looks from the 2013. We decided to go with the 2013, so we stopped by the Acura dealer on the way home and purchased a 2013 Dark Cherry MDX with Technology for $40.3k including dest but excluding TTL. We also got the 0.9% financing for 60 months from Acura. I've been looking for over a year and decided to pull the trigger today. You wont' see these kind of discounts on the 2014 for a couple of years.

between now and summer, if you are looking for a particular color combo...now. if you dont' care...wait later.

i tried to call a few dealers, but they all take forever to call me back...or even some not calling me back. i am in CA. maybe it is still early of the year, they are not in a hurry to get the cars of the lot.

OP-go through the internet sales dept.
find the highest volume in sales dealer in your area...they will be the ones most willing to give you a really good price. if you're willing to be patient now...by the end of the month the offers will come down.
2012's with tech pkg in late summer and early fall were selling for under $40k (before TTL), just to give you an idea. my dealer happens to be the "largest dealer in the world" by sales volume. they typically will beat a lot of the other acura dealers in my area (there are about 5-6 others within a 50 mile radius). i would imagine the 2013's will be selling for that price as the 2014's start popping up on dealer lots. acura is still offering some pretty good incentives as well from what i've seen. GL.

I would wait till the 2014 hits the dealer lots. You can then compare the two and decide if its worth paying the extra amount for the newer model. If not, then there will always be a few 2013s still on the lot, although limited in selection, and you can get a killer deal on those. We did the same when the 2nd gen came out, but ultimately decided we did not need another large car at the moment.
My parents have decided to get the '14 once it comes out, because we keep our cars for a long time and it would be nice to have something feel new. Also the mpg's on the 2nd gens is really bad. The '14 is supposedly having the best in class fuel economy.

MPGs aren't THAT bad. 23-24 on pure hwy miles at 65 mph avg...i'd say that's pretty good for a 4500lb beast that was rated for 20 mpg hwy. my MPGs on my normal commuter route is only 1mpg less than what it is in my TL (avg mph = 25mph => 16-17 mpg for the MDX and 17-18mpg in the TL).
When I got my 2012 MDX over the summer, I was on vacation in Maryland. The night before I left Maryland, I went on Edmunds.com and sent out an email to 4 dealers in Chicago. The next day, as I was driving back to Chicago, I got 4 phone calls. That same night, I bought the MDX for under $40k before TTL from the dealer closest to my house. I just gave her quotes from other dealers and she beat it by 5%. I pretty much went home, dropped off my bags, picked up my MDX. $0 down, 0.9% for 60 months.
I always buy cars online because I dont want to haggle at the dealers. When you walk in, they ALWAYS quote you a higher price than their online price.

my dealer is advertising their prez day deal 3013 MDX with tech for 39,990.
as far as the JX...personally i don't like the look of it. it looks too bulbous. and it is a little bigger than the MDX. on paper...it's underpowered for it's size. if you decide to add options to it (or any infiniti), the price goes up fast. i'm sure it's a nice car though. however it is your money, and your particular tastes, so it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks as long as you are happy with the car you choose and how much you paid for it. GL.

My brother in law just bought a JX, it has some cool features, BUT the MDX kills it on looks, performance and resale....plus it is a HONDA, not a Nissan.

anyway, here is what i got from dealers.
Dealer A: Lease 2013 Mdx tech for $1500 down and $675 included tax per month.
Dealer B: Lease 2013 MDX base for $1000 down and 550 before tax per month.
let me know what u guys think or maybe help me to get a better deal, thx
yeah i feel what u saying. the drive of the Jx is not as good as the MDX, i mean the interior is better and tech is newer. but after all it just doesn't drive well like the mdx, plus i have been driving HONDA/Acura for the past 15 years. should stick with them/

my dealer's lease offer on tech (this is advertised):
$2500 down and $439/mo for 36 mos.
i dont' know much about leases since i buy all my cars.
From reading here and other places, it is being stated that when the 2014 MDX hits the showrooms, the 2013 will be "heavily" discounted.
I see on Edmunds where a base MDX with no packages has a MSRP of $44,175 including destination fee, invoice of $40,987 and a TMV (True Market Value) or what people are supposedly paying of $39,193.
Figures on the MDX with Tech are $47,850 (MSRP), $44,350 invoice and $42,952 (TMV).
Given the discounts & prices being currently reported here, in your opinion, what do you guys think a 2013 base model or base with tech can be purchased for when the 2014s actually arrive at the dealerships and they have both sitting on the lot? When do they typically arrive - August or so?

the '14 MDX is due to arrive on lots most likely in May (according to my dealer). the debut of the production model is next week at the NY auto show. as far as deals are concerned...i wouldn't expect to get them $10k off or anything. i believe they will sell and not sit just b/c the '14 arrives. some people may not like the look of the new one or the size...color options will also become scarce if one is looking for particular color combo. certainly there will be deals, but don't expect to get an mdx with tech for $35k, just under $40k is about as good as it gets.

Interesting Info regarding May. Based on what I've seen thus far, we are considering moving into a '14 and May is earlier than I had previously anticipated.

i'm sure we'll know more once the production model debuts next week. if the interior looks anything like the RLX....it'll be a much sexier interior than what is in the current gen. i'll also be interested to see drivetrains...we know there will be a 2WD model (which i have no interest in). which AWD system will they put in the MDX?? cylinder deactivation (most likely i believe)?? everything these days is about fuel economy...so we shall see.
One other issue to consider as I have run into it before is that if you wait too long once the 14s hit showrooms, the 13 inventory will be much smaller and your choices on packages and colors will be limited. In some markets, the 13s may even be scarce and availability becomes an issue with dealers having to go out of state to find what you are looking for, etc. If that happens, you could miss out on the 13 discounts all together and be stuck paying MSRP or having to wait for months to begin seeing discounts on the 14s.
Oh, and even with a lease I would try to negotiate on price as opposed to monthly payment. Once you get an agreed price they should be able to adjust the lease values accordingly, thereby resulting in a lower monthly payment. Negotiating payments leaves you on the dark on costs...you should see the costs first and then have them translated into a payment. Goof luck!

I believe the new 3.5L with cylinder deactivation (used also in the RLX) and SH-AWD (rather than the lesser AWD system found on the new RDX) have both been confirmed for the new MDX.

^^wow really?!
most of the hwy road trips we've done have had a hitch rack with two bikes hanging off the back end, the cargo area full of stuff and two adults (and i'm the one usually driving with my lead foot
). i usually get the 23-24 mpgs. we did a 1200 mile road trip (roundtrip), driving some hills at hwy speeds (avg 65mph) we got almost 24 mpg on the way up. on the way home (having to slow for stop and go traffic along with a pouring rain for the trip home) we got about 22-23 mpg avg closer to 55mph.
interesting, i've read other 6AT 10+ MDX's struggling a bit on their MPGs.
did you recently get the ECU reflashed for the torque convertor? i had mine done back in Nov. i'll be curious to see once the summer blend fuels come out if my MPGs for the road trips will be affected.

What ECU flash for the TC are you referring to? I have experienced the same, our '08 got better mileage than our 2010 with the 6spd (which should be the other way around one would think).
Thanks,

transmission/torque convertor issue...same letter. i didn't have any issues with my car prior to. i read on MDXers that people were noting a drop in MPGs. not sure if it's b/c of the reflash or the winter fuel.
I got a 2012 MDX. Should I be having a reflash of the transmission ECU?

not sure it does not appear that the 2012's are included at this time. acura may have already applied the reprogram to the 12's and 13's.

next time your MDX goes in for service, i would ask. certainly won't hurt.
I went for 2013 adv/ ent., loaded for 49k, invoice and 2500 dealer cash right now. I got 72 months at 3.28 interest and I got what I want out of my trade. that almost 6 grand in savings and another 1400 in taxes. I didn't enough in the 14' to make me want to wait and spend the extra money.
