Gas Cap Door Gap

I bought my 2011 MDX new. I have now noticed that the gas cap door has a huge gap at the top. The top of the door sticks out about 3 mm or an 1/8th of an inch instead of being flush with the body of the vehicle. It makes the build quality look really cheap.

The gas cap door is made of plastic where most cars have a metal gas cap door. Is this temperature related warping?

Here is a photo of the warp (Sorry about the quality. It is a cell phone camera).

I am at the dealer right now. They say it is a very common problem and is temperature related. They are installing a new surround (the black liner) and are taking a heat gun to the gas cap door to mold it better to the frame/arm that attaches to the gas cap door.
