I have a 2012 MDX and am having dealer install the tow package. I need to tow a motorcycle trailer that has electric brakes and need the controller. Dealer doesn't do this install, but told me they install the 7 pin connector so all I have to do is plug the controller in under the dash. Is this true, or do I have to wire in an adapter of some sort? Appreciate any help.
There is not a port for a brake controller on that vehicle that I know of. I'm a tech for etrailer.com, give me a call sometime, I'd be happy to walk you through the install. My desk is 636-887-9375

Depending on how much weight you're planning on towing you might be fine with no brake controller- if it's just a motorcycle trailer. you're probably fine
I have a Pilot and installed a Brake Controller myself. You should install the controller before installing the 7-pin connector in the back. You could probably take your MDX to an RV shop and they could do the wiring if you want. It's far harder doing the mechanical install for the hitch than the wiring. The big trick is routing your hot wire into the cab from the battery- simply go through a rubber grommet already in the firewall by poking a small hole in it with an ice pick and using a coat hanger for feeding your wire into cab.
The wiring isn't super-hard but is a little involved routing the brake controller wires down to the hitch via the interior- there is a plastic access hole in the cargo area that I used for ultimately getting the controller wire to the 7-pin connector. The other wire connections can be made in the hitch area for lights and other stuff.
