My MDX had an irritating condition in which multiple "check" messages appeared - Check ABS, Check VSA, Check SH-AWD, Check Trailer Stability Assist. I thought the car's world was ending - but noticed that if I just pulled over, put in neutral and shut off and restarted the engine they'd all be out and would stay out - UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED and then it all the messages started again. And sometimes the shifter would be locked in P, requiring the key stab in the slot to release it. Luckily I happened onto that points out a different brake brake light switch can cure all of it. I found a new switch online and got it in 2 days for 12 bucks delivered. This may have been the least time and money spent in my Honda//Acura owner history to cure multiple system messages at once. It makes perfect sense - if these systems don't know the brakes are being applied, they won't work either - and they all holler. Maybe everybody else already knows about this? Take Care, rb95gs

I'm guessing if you'd connected a code reader you would have seen amongst the various errors XYZ123 - BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH OPEN CIRCUIT or something similar which would lead to the same conclusion.

 

the christmas tree effect can happy for a number of reasons.

Code readers are cheap now, everyone should have one.
