Angry Brand new 2012 MDX - CDs not recognized, player issue

I am seriously pi**ed about this . A brand new 2012 MDX with 400 miles on it - so far, love and enjoy the ride.

Now the problem - Yesterday, when I ejected the CD that was in the drive and put a new one in, I heard a funny whining noise and the new CD was immediately ejected with a "Bad Disc, check owners manual" error. All subsequent CDs gave me the same error - even the ones that were playing fine earlier. FYI, these are all audio CDs - a mix of home made and store bought.

After several tries, finally decided to put in the Acura ELS sound system demo DVD but ended up with the same error. The navigation display shows "Ejecting" and whining noise persists. Every time I enter the car, the player whines. And yes, everything else is working find, no issues with navigation, USB Aux, Bluetooth, sound or anything else.

My diagnosis - Something is messed up in the CD drive seat/tray (whatever that thing is called) and it's causing the player to (wrongly) think that there is already a CD in there. It tries to play or eject and cannot do so, so it complains of "Bad Disc".

Long story short, called the dealer and got an appointment after two whole weeks. I am pretty unhappy now because a) it's a brand new vehicle, b) supposed to be known for quality, c) two whole weeks is terrible. In the meantime, thank god for my iPod.

Now that I'm done ranting, I feel much better. Thanks for listening!! I'll post how it goes.

My Accord has had no problems for 5 years and the new Acura CD player craps out in 5 days? I was pretty unhappy not having the 6 CD changer too...

Anyways - feel much better after reading your sensible reply :-) Thanks for the encouragement.

Although I would have liked the 6cd changer better, the HDD is not bad to load music to and have all the CDs you want.

True, but I'm the kind that likes WAV files, each 50 MB, to get the uncompressed quality

I understand your frustration but they will fix it and all will be good again. As far as the 6 disc cd changer is concerned I am sure you knew it wasn't in the vehicle when you bought it and the HDD is pretty convenient I found. Miss that in my 6mt ILX.

Frustrating and unlikely but sometimes little issues like this happen. You'll have a trouble-free vehicle soon

Sometimes s**t happens. Let them fix and all will be good. I now have 15,000 miles on my 2011 MDX and it's great.

OK - so took it to the dealer this morning and as expected, they said they are going to replace the CD player unit - ETA three days - under warranty, of course.

We'll see how it goes.

Same thing happened to my girlfriend's 2012 MDX. Had it replaced under warranty. I had the exact same thoughts because we only had the car for a few weeks.

just make sure after they fix it...the dealer guys don't scratch up other parts of your car. it's known to happen...of course the dealer will replace anything that does get scratched.

hopefully the new unit will work fine. yeah...it's annoying to have stupid little things like this pop up...but...like others said...sh!t happens.

Thanks guys, yes, I plan to look carefully once I get the car back from the dealer.

On a side note, when I went to the dealer Tuesday, I saw the original Sales Rep I spoke to when I was looking to buy (he was trying to sell me a nice $4000 markup in price). He ignored me completely and I pretended I didn't see him there either :-)

After selling you the car, the sales rep never remember you.. Happens every time.
