All new 2012/13 MDX!?

Take this for what it's worth: According to my salesperson at my Acura dealership the MDX will be all new come 2012 with a V8 no less and some stunning exterior features such as LED headlights. The interior will feature a mind blowing sound system and Internet connectivity. I think he had the MDX confused with the RL. Time will tell.

The V8 part of the story kills the credibility. In fact, anything you hear from a dealer that's more then 3 months out should be treated like gossip. It's usually no more reliable then something you read on the internet.

The V8 is very possible as many are going to larger SUV's for the engine. I have a friend who claims he went for a big Nissen or Toy and I know it says V8 on it.

What could Acura gain by going to a V8? More torque and HP, yes, but less mpg, that's for sure. Also, if they're going "green" like that other thread suggests, it would conflict with their new mission statement. Brands like Infinity are getting 330HP out of their V6 with no forced induction, and I'm sure Acura could do the same. GM's new 8-passenger CUV's are all V6, and I understand all of their Cadillac cars and CUV models will now be V6. Seems like going V8 is a step backwards toward the old SUV formula.

I don't foresee ANY V8's in Acura's lineup, anywhere.

Acura has stated this over and over again that development of a V8 has been killed due to the effectiveness of their V6's. They initially were going to stick a V8 in the new RL but opted to stick with the V6 since there was no real gain by going V8.

I would be cool if Acura provided a factory option S/C for those who crave the extra power for the 2012/2013 MDX.

Interesting info, I'm sure you are counting down the days until your 2010 comes in!

My thoughts: if Acura won't put a V8 in the RL, they're not going to put one in the MDX.

Otherwise it's not much of a stretch for the other options. Internet connectivity will likely be more common in 2012, and LED headlights I think right now are Audi-only but in 3 years should be more commonplace as well. And the stereo is already killer in my opinion

Honda/Acura will never go for a V8 simply due to new standards that will be imposed on auto makers in 2012 for MPG and pollution. It's in acura's best interest to continue to pursue technologies such as Turbocharging, Supercharging, more efficient motor design and as well advanced transmission design.

Imagine having a turbo/supercharged V6 from the factory that can get 20 MPG crusing around town while still having nearly 400 HP! Also imagine having a car with a 6 or 7 speed trans so on the highway you'll be rocking in the 40-50 MPG range. (current TL does 35MPG revving at 2.5K)

So far tho, the only car model Acura has EVER turbocharged is the RDX. They're a bit behind the rest of the pack in that regard. And they'll need to do a lot better than the mileage the RDX is getting from that 4-banger...not much better than the MDX, all things considered.
