Acura Mdx Elite 2012 Gas problems
Hello everyone, I'm from Montreal Canada and i just got a new 2012 Mdx Elite and I'm having an issue with the fuel consumption, my trip computer is showing me 19,4L/100km which should compare to 15MPG. To specify my driving routine, i do 70% city and 30% highway, and i don't drive aggressively. The spec sheet at the dealer clearly shows 13,2L/100km in a 100% city drive....i wouldn't complain if my trip computer would show me 14,5L/100km...there could always be a little room for error but i am burning 50% more gas than i really should!!! I went to the dealer today and they told me to wait until i reach 10 to 12000km because the valves need to properly adjust themselves and blablabla just sounded like big BS to me!!!
I currently have 2300km on my IDO.
Has anyone had any similar problems?
What do you suggest me to do?
I feel like just trowing them the keys!!

what is your avg MPH??? per your MID. i understand the 70/30 stuff, but what are your actual numbers??
if i avg 25mph in my TL, i usually get around 18-19 mpg. if i avg over 55mph, i'll avg around 25 mpg (this is with a roof rack attached).
in my mdx i avg about 24-25 mph, i get 16-17 mpg. if i avg over 60 mph, i get close to 23-24mpg.
your avg mph is a better gauge as to whether your mpg's are normal. if you avg <20 mph, then sure you'll probably get around 15 mpg. there have been TL driver's that get 14 mpg at less than 20 mph avg for a tank. the other thing will be if you take A LOT of short trips (< 5 miles), your MPGs will suffer a little.
so...what does you car tell you in terms of your avg MPH (or in your case kM/H)??

I avg about 20mph in the city and i don't usually take short trips...but for what the dealer told me its pure BS!!! I'm calling the consumers protection agency on monday as well as Honda Canada and if they don't fix this problem i will be giving them back the car at the end of february and will probably get the new bluetec ML! I mean theres a spec sheet in the window of the car for a reason! Im so pissed ?&%# i love this car!!!

i posted that i avg 24 mph and get 16 mpg. so i'm not that far off from what you are getting.
EPA for the MDX in the city is 16 mpg, and 21 for hwy, mixed is 18.
i'm not sure what kind of MPGs your are expecting...it is an SUV with a thristy 3.7L V6. and you drive A LOT of city miles in really slow traffic. take your car for a road trip and drive HWY miles only....you'll find your MPGs go up to well over 20+ mpg. if i get closer to 50/50 hwy/city....i'll get 17 mpg.
sorry to burst your bubble but i think your car is behaving normally given your driving conditions.

Burning Brakes
15mpg is actually quite normal for the city. There are numerous threads about the mdx's gas mileage, you should do a search. New engines get less mpg and there is also the winter gas mix that affects it.

TLtrigirl is dead on. Also need to remember / consider you are still breaking in you new MDX. Give yourself and your new ride a little time for break in as well as getting used to it. It's a great vehicle

owner's manual? usually around 600-1000 mi for the engine, but full break in occurs once you are due for your first oil change (factory fill out....dino/synthetic of choice in). at least this is to my understanding. the OM will state that you drive gently at all varying speeds for the first 600 mi or so (IIRC).

I do very short trips and almost all city driving and I get about 13-14 mpg on my MDX. I have 7,000 miles now and use 93 gas. It's a heavy SUV and I knew I would be getting this kind of mileage from it. But, I'm also very happy with the MDX.

stop, go, stop, go, idle, stop, go, stop, idle some more. sitting in traffic and mashing the pedal. you have established you don't mash the pedal. so you must be sitting in traffic idling... A LOT. do you let your sit and idle when you first start it to "warm it up"??? if you idle you are getting ZERO mpg.
what does your MID tell you your avg mph (kmh) are? if i avg 25 mph i'll get 16 mpg. you mentioned earlier you avg about 20 mph...then it's not surprising you get 12-13mpg.

im in vancouver..
i have a 09.. and i average about ~15L/100kms with 'light' driving in the city . i get around 10L/100kms on hwy.. this is one of the things i do not like about the mdx..
it is a dealer maintained car and have had everything done to it.. it is not my driving habits because i also have a honda insight hybrid and i can meet near its advertise fuel consumption. and when you own a hybrid, you tend to be gas conscious. i am at 40 000kms and the mdx is just my weekend vehicle for the kids
