Acura door lock system
Funny thing happened last night. We have misplaced the key fob for the MDX and am using a spare key. I went out to get something from the back of the car. Unlocked with key, climbed through and retrieved item the door closed on me and locked. I tried getting out using the handle and could not. I could not see the locking mechanism but I hit the electrical unlock and set off the alarm. The door finally unlocked, I got out and closed the door. We waited for the alarm to run its cycle and it finally went off. I tried to get back in with the key and it would not work. Will this car ever let me back in with just the key?

When you say back, its from the trunk or back doors? Do you have child Lock enabled which would explain why the car didn't open.
Also looks like the car auto locked, this usually happens if you unlock the car & not open it, so if you used the trunk door, it might not have registered as door open(could anyone confirm if that's how it will behave?) & hence locked the car?
This is obviously just a theory

Did you use the other fob or the valet key?
I know you can set the door re-lock timer (car alarm sets 15 sec later) for certain intervals if you unlock the vehicle with the fob only. I think the timer cancels if you open the driver's door (assuming the passenger doors/hatch also). Maybe the valet key lets you open the door and drive the vehicle; but, the alarm is still active when stopped and remove the key with the same relock timer? Never used the valet key for any of my vehicles.
I don't think Honda/Acura will unlock when you pull the inside door handle on a locked door (2 step process)?
