Is the 3.7 engine of the 07 MDX rebuildable

Hey guys,

I rebuild marine engines all the time, after all they are just good old SBC or BBC but I was wondering about those Acura engines; are they rebuild-able?

I mean the same way we rebuild chevy or Ford engine... reboring and honing cylinders, oversized pistons, different cam bearing sizes etc?

What abut the heads, can they be machined and the valves replaced?

Or the only option is to drop a new engine/heads?

Thanks in Advance

Thank you for your quick reply. Where can I get oversized pistons and all I need for the rebuild? Is there any good kits out there?

Yes, I could not find it on the site you posted or any other site. That is why I was asking if the experts know if this engine rebuildable. Are you sure of that so?

Look into getting a used motor from japan.
They scrap them much sooner, because of stricter pollution requirements.
Then find out how to make minor part swaps, to reposition the accessories, for a lefthand drive (USA) engine bay.
You might need a usdm oil pump and crank position sensor.

Get a 2007-2009 engine vs the 2010+ ones, those have issues with the cylinder walls wearing a bit more vs the 2007-2009 ones.

You can rebuild them but the max bore is 90mm. Going past that and you decrease the strength of the liners quite a bit and soon end up in the jacket. It'd be better to get new sleeves, IE darton, put in rather than rehone and deal with weak walls, etc.

that with some custom coated pistons and the J37 you have will be putting out a ton of power.

You can also do a 3.6L by using J35 block and J37 crank. J35 is a much more common engine.
