2G timing belt replacement with low miles

Although Acura recommends timing belt replacement after 7 years or 105k, I replaced it at 9 years with 45k. Turns out, a bit of money down the drain. The old belt is almost indistinguishable from the new belt.

Dealer wanted $2,000; Firestone was under $1,000 for the ASIN TKH-002 kit installed. The only bright spot was having Firestone do it for half the price. If I hadn't replaced it, I'd probably worry about being two+ years past Acura's recommendation. Nonetheless, the belt appears to have a lot of life left in it.

Depending on how long you are going to keep the MDX, the timing belt is done for another 10 years. Spending $1000 at Firestone sound a lot better than damaged engine from a broken timing belt X amount of years down the road with the original belt.

Mine was done at 9 yrs and 90k mi. Dealer only charged me $1200 with the water pump replacement. I needed the coolant flushed anyway, so while they were in there, might as well just take care of it. They also noticed a leaky oil pump…since labor overlapped went ahead and had them do that too. Peace of mind. Flip side, my TL TB was changed at 13 yrs and 58k mi. no idea what the belts looked like.

Better safe than sorry. The peace of mind is worth it! Rest easy.
