Question 2011 Tech + Ent to 2015 Adv +Ent Worth it?

First, Wish you all a very Happy New Year !!!

Now, I have a 2011 Tech + Ent with almost 50k miles and warranty expiring later this year. Was bought CPO in 2014.

In between I had another car which had Blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert. So I have started to miss those features sorely on my X

Also overall upgrade bug has bitten so was looking at some used 2015 Advance + Ent cars due to following reason

- Avoiding 2014s as heard lot of issues on forums. Are the 2015's better? 2016 are too expensive
- Much better headlights thanks to LED
- Better seating area for 2nd and 3rd row
- Better gas mileage (anybody know real world difference between the two?)
- Much Better Safety equipment list (BLIS/Parking Sensors, ACC, LDW)
- More luxury features (Premium leather, Ventilated Seats, Push button start, easy 3rd row access compared to 2nd gen, Sliding 2nd row bench etc, HDMI for RES with 2 multiple inputs)

So I am really tempted. I would have to spend about 12-15k after exchange for this upgrade.

However the sane part of me says that nothings wrong with my 2G But then my running is so low, this car will last me a life time :p

So I am debating if its worth upgrading or not...

Upgrade it, if for nothing else updated Safety tech. My 12 Adv MDX is fun to drive with the ACC and having cooled seats is great too.

Is it a sh-awd or fwd version? I think the 15 MDX Adv was the best value because of:
- all 15 Adv came with the 2nd row widescreen entertainment standard (I love the rear heated seats in my 11 MDX Adv+Ent)
- same 6AT from your 11 MDX tech
- 15 MDX 6AT has higher mpgs than the 9AT
- even more tech compared to 10-13 MDX Adv
- still might have the 4/50 basic warranty to cover any issues
- much better set up for 2nd row passengers and folding down 2nd row from hatch area

The only downside is having to put money down. It is so nice having my MDX (105K), RDX (146K), and TSX (141K) with +390,000 miles between them and haven't had a car payment in years.

its SH-AWD and yes has the regular 6AT. Is there a diff in SH-AWD between 2nd gen & 3rd?

Yes and no. The 2014-2015 MDX has the same SH-AWD system as the 2G. But the 2016+ has a new SH-AWD system that is hydraulically activated vs electro magnetic and it can overdrive the rear wheels by 2.X% vs the 2G’ 1.7%. I honestly don’t know what that percent overdrive means because the RL can overdrive by 5.6% and yet it too can only send 70% to the rear so not sure how that works. I did drive a 2016 as a loaner for a couple days and I was VERY impressed with the SH-AWD system. We have a VERY curvy road here in the city that goes into the valley and I have driven on that road in the RDX, my 2G and that 2016 3G and the 3G by far had the best SH-AWD system. It was almost proactive in nature.

I believe that from the internal space perspective (especially the trunk), 1G > 2G >3G. That's my real life experience comparing his 1G and her 2G, and her 2G to 3G during shopping, while the paper may say something different.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions guys. I think I will keep my 2011(specially as its fully paid).

What tempted me are the new features of the 2015 advance model and while I still some of those safety features, I cant justify selling a perfectly good car. May be I will hold it till the 2017's become affordable in used car market

I really like to wait until the 17 or 18 sh-sh-awd MDX come off lease in 2-4 years as an replacement for my current 11 MDX. I never really liked the bland styling of the 14-16 MDX and didn't like how the 9AT drove in the +16 MDX. I know I can get 3-4 more years from my 11 MDX with only 105K on her now.

After looking at the 2019 RDX, i think we will have to wait for Gen 4 MDX to see some substantial changes because the 2017 MDX is primarily a facelift with some minor features thrown in.unlike the 2019 RDX which is new from ground up.

When I seen the new RDX the first thing that came to mind is that I wonder what the next MDX will be like. If you look closely you can see they copied the muscular front fenders from the 2G into the new RDX so hopefully the next gen MDX will be aggressive again and not some flattened modern day Pacifica. Also, naturally the MDX gets more high end materials and features vs the RDX so I would love to see a V6 turbo in the MDX and also a much higher quality interior vs the current MDX (which admittedly is not terrible). Though I am not a huge fan of that touch pad interface or the button shifter thing.

True, they did announce that a new V6 turbo will be made available so I am assuming RLX/TLX/MDX will be the ones getting it in different tunes.

The button based gear selector looked more natural in the RDX and will hopefully not look out of place like it does currently.

Touchpad even I am skeptical, why cant they just create dial(not the vertical one like before but like how Audi & BMW have)? Anyways may be it would be good as they probably would have learned from Lexus's mistake as the reports were very bad on the Lexus implementation.
